4 day adult city break in October - where?

Any particular recommendations? It's for dh and I - long time since we went away just the two of us. I know the end of October may not have a huge range of flights so need to bear that in mind. We've been away many half terms to the canaries and Balearics, but looking somewhere different. Something a bit more luxurious without breaking the bank would be great.

I'd like to explore a new city so that rules out: Barcelona, Budapest, palma, girona... (I'm sure I've been to loads more European cities but can't think which ones!!).
Thanks

Istanbul is really interesting. Lisbon or Porto also nice.

RomainingCalm · 29/05/2022 16:46

Lisbon is currently on my list for a child-free weekend.

Other suggestions would be Copenhagen, Reykjavik or Oslo (but not exactly a cheap break). Love Nice but would want to have a car to get out along the coast. Lots to do/see in Berlin or Amsterdam.

NCTDN · 29/05/2022 16:52

Oh yes not Amsterdam or Paris either.

Porto is great. Seville? Valencia is lovely and very interesting mix of new and old.

I loved Oslo, although weather could be dodgy by October.

Rome?

ErrolTheDragon · 29/05/2022 17:06

Florence, though there's enough to do there for a longer trip.

For somewhere a bit different in Spain, perhaps Zaragoza, or Merida in Extramadura, taking fast trains from Madrid.

BundtCake · 30/05/2022 14:49

Lisbon, Porto, Dubrovnik, Sevilla

FeinsteinA · 30/05/2022 14:50

Marrakech - there are some amazing hotels there and the weather is perfect in October.

Barkingmadhouse · 30/05/2022 14:50

Lisbon

Greatoutdoors · 30/05/2022 14:52

Another vote for Porto

DameHelena · 30/05/2022 14:53

I really liked Madrid. Not a beautiful 'strolling along picturesque little streets' sort of place – it's big and busy and quite gritty – but SO much to do: the Prado is a wonder, there are lots of nice bookshops and antique/flea markets, nice places to eat and drink, friendly people.

Iamclearlyamug · 30/05/2022 14:56

Krakow is an incredible city

Glitterspy · 30/05/2022 15:00

Madrid,
Istanbul- loved Istanbul- nicely exotic but great food and a metro and really is east meets west. Only 4 hours flight too

Crikeyalmighty · 30/05/2022 15:08

Several people mentioned Valencia- I must admit I thought Valencia was a let down- personally I Malaga was much nicer as are Seville, cordoba and Granada and Madrid

Hoppinggreen · 30/05/2022 15:12

Seville, Porto, Munich or Nuremberg

spagbog5 · 30/05/2022 15:15
