Hello. We normally book P & O for Dover - Calais but not sure, after all the debacle, whether we want to use them any more. What are the alternatives? Dh won't use the tunnel.

We are using the tunnel but looked into both options and irish ferries came up as cheaper than p and o anyway. Don't have any IRL experience though - sorry!

DFDS do Dover - Calais or Dover - Dunkerque, if you want a short crossing (90 mins/2 hours).

Word of warning - if you search their website for Dover - Calais it returns Dover - Dunkerque results too, so be careful which you select. Ask me how I know.......!? 😂

Other than that you're looking at the longer routes - Newhaven - Dieppe, Portsmouth - Le Havre etc. They're massively more expensive, so if you don't mind the drive it's usually a lot cheaper to do the extra miles from Calais, depending where you're heading.

This site lists the routes:

DH goes home to France a lot via DFDS but recently started using Irish Ferries and has been impressed.
We wouldn't touch P&O.

We've always used Brittany Ferries and find them very good.

Poole - Cherbourg ?

My son went through and back last week, he said there were no queues.

We have used Brittany Ferries a few times. We have a club voyage membership and the number is F09AG9 if anyone wants to get 10% off.

Hello, any advice on times to take a ferry to France with 2 kids during summer?

Or is it advisable to go Via euro tunnel instead?

Thanks in advance

Dunquerque. Bit further but lots less busy.

And we always go for an early ferry or Chunnel.

We live in the westcountry and have gone overnight Plymouth to Roscoff with a cabin, returning.using the daytime ferry.

Arrive in Brittany which gives access to that side of France.
