Anyone been to Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald or Interlaken?

I got such good advice for a stopover in France that I wonder if anyone can help for a day trip to one or two of the above in August? We will be based in Lucerne and have a spare day and thought a day trip to Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald or Interlaken might be worthwhile.

Lauterbrunnen village and the waterfalls looks nice but is there anything else you'd recommend? We'll have already been up at least one, if not two, mountains so I don't want to spend another £200+ on cable cars. The DCs may also be hiked out by then!

If you fancy something a bit quirky try an open air museum www.ballenberg.ch/en/ If the weather is good there are beaches by the lake for bathing.

Manor Farm! I stayed there too on a Guide trip in the 90s! Loved it. Stunning part of the world. We did Grindelwald and Jungfraujoch (as well as Our Chalet of course). Any ideas I have are 30 years out of date but have a fab time!

Haha yay for the interlaken love. And me too on the advice.whole mountains may have melted by now 😛
Manor farm must still be the best though.might have to do some nostalgic googling.
We also went to James bond film setting up one mountain.has little museum of where it was.thr one with all the girls held in a big mountain top villa? and he ski down the mountain.it was very misty the day we went.

So pleased I came across this thread, we’re travelling from Zurich to this area by train in the summer, so following all tips.

Check with the hotel you’re staying in as some offer a number of cut price deals for lift tickets in summer, might be first come first served each day.

Aww I'm another with great childhood memories. We stayed at the eurocamp site in lauterbrunnen. I was another one who loaned at all the hiking up the mountains but now have great memories. I loved going up the jungfraujoch and having a husky sled dog ride at the top.

Haha yes.we were canvas holiday tenting on the campsite! About 20 years ago too.i wonder if we'd both be shocked at what it looks like through adult eyes hehe.it was beautiful.

Ha! I also was another ex-canvass holidayer at Manor Farm! I remember getting the bus from the campsite into Interlaken.

To be honest, it's wasn't particularly great for me as I was a teenager and my parents were (and are still) very into hiking whilst I was (and am) more into museums and culture. But the campsite and the general lake area look wonderful for younger dc.

Oh god the walks.the early mornings.more walking across mountains,in trains, more mountains ha.the only thing that helped was the thought of our French baguette at the end.or Apple tizer and ice cream in the cafe.

Yes! This is the Schilthorn. There is a 360degrees revolving restaurant, I went back to Switzerland in the mid 00s with DH and we had a champagne breakfast up there. I also remember it being partly misty, and DH being terrified of the cable car but doing it for me!

You can have a buffet brunch up there and watch the scenery go by.
