France - covid, toll and clean air

Koumak · 24/05/2022 15:53

We are off to France next week for a family short trip.
Can anyone please advise on the following:

  1. adults double vaccinated with booster so nothing else needed I believe BUT the kids are 12 & 17 and had 2 jabs only no booster so does this mean they are FULLY vaccinated to French standard? I found the info on their websites confusing! Is fully vaccinated child after 2 jabs as they dont offer more atm I think?

  2. Do I need the clean air sticker if I am not going to Paris? Just Brittany and Normandie? Car is e-charging hybrid. Can I get this once in France?

  3. Toll roads. I dont mind overpaying but I really want the easy of not stopping to pay or looking for change etc. Is there somewhere we can buy online now or can I purchase a sticker for dashboard that sort of thing once I cross over?

Thank you!

You can get a toll tag here but I don't know how long it takes to arrive www.bipandgo.com/en/

IpanemaBelle · 24/05/2022 16:02

We were there at Easter but check Fr government for latest covid news.

we got an E tag sent to us in UK and attached it to front mirror before we left. Made the journey smoother.

Info on the clean air cert here - it's only in limited places. If you click on the map it doesn't look like it applies in Brittany. You can check if your car would need it here too though. Button to change language to English on top right.
www.certificat-air.gouv.fr/

You need a tag like this one
www.emovis-tag.co.uk/subscription/
for the automated toll road payments. The start-up costs are quite a lot though - we don't bother as we don't do enough motorway travel. Many toll booths do contactless payments now. You could get a prepay money card in Euros so you don't get a currency transfer fee every time.
Not sure re kids and Covid vaccines. Most over 12s here were double-jabbed by last summer, so may require boosters by now?

Janek · 24/05/2022 17:10

Check you will be on toll roads - my DPs used to drive from Calais to Brittany and I don't think there were any. Or if there were there were none in Brittany (and possibly not Normandy also).

Koumak · 24/05/2022 17:11

Kids were vaccinated the 2nd time only a few weeks ago as the older one's was delayed by covid and the 12 year only just had the 2nd due to age. So would you say 2 jabs = fully vaccinated for under 18 as only recent?

We drove down to Dordogne 2 years ago and didn't have clean air thing - is it new?

Re tolls - you can just use your card. We used a prepay euro card I think, or a use a fee free UK one. It's really fast.

Koumak · 24/05/2022 17:30

Thank you all. So I think we are ok re driving. Clean air looks fine and tolls we will tackle it when needed.

Anyone else with any more covid info. I looked at both uk and french travel advise but neither clarifies what does fully vaccinated child mean!?

What have you read that you need to be vaccinated for? At the moment I don't have to show my pass to anyone in France (I did have to show it traveling from London to Paris early May)

InvincibleInvisibility · 24/05/2022 17:35

From what ive read unvaccinated have to show a negative test to enter the country. But i dont know what counts as vaccinated

IpanemaBelle · 24/05/2022 17:37

We had to upload vaccinated status when booking euro tunnel and the booking wasn’t confirmed until we did.

Koumak · 24/05/2022 17:38

The covid proof is for the border only I believe. I have to download the passes onto the eurotunnel account prior to the crossing.

We live here and haven't got a clean air tag. Hadn't even heard of it.

Saisong · 24/05/2022 18:08

This page from Eurostar website says 12-18yo are considered fully vaccinated with the two jabs and no booster. In fact all 18+ are with only 2 jabs, unless the last one is more than 9 months ago - then you need a booster.

Koumak · 24/05/2022 19:16

Yes, I am hoping 2nd jab recently is enough for the kids. Thank you!

DH is coming back to France through Eurotunnel next week and needs proof he is fully vaxxed or a negative test to get in. For kids I would guess if they only had second jabs recently they are fine - we had a few months (ever changing) to get boosted.

@failing40s @AlisonDonut the clean air thing ('Crit'Air') only applies to certain vehicles in big cities, including but not limited to Paris, Lyon and Grenoble. It's to cut down on pollution - if air pollution is bad (decided on day-to-day basis), only vehicles with the crit'air certificate are allowed to drive in these city centres. If you live in France it's easy to get one 'just in case' through the site linked above - ours cost €5 (may be slightly more now).

Koumak · 24/05/2022 20:27

Thank you all for your comments!

I just remembered that donkeys ago we had to have the paper counterpart of the driving licence with us. Is that still the case? I am not even sure where ours are ha!
In regards to the car we still need to purchase the continental travel kit but will prime that tomorrow. I also have the copy of the car insurance, MOT certificate, and the original car log book.
We have yearly multi travel insurance and EHIC cards.
Am I missing anything?

I live in France (Normandy) never even heard of the clean air sticker!

No one cares about covid any more unless you're seeing a medical professional.

Tolls pay with Apple phone or card with chip. Just wave it over the appropriate bit of the toll machine.

AllLopsided · 24/05/2022 23:28

You don't need the paper counterpart to your licence - they stopped being needed a few years ago.

You need a first aid kit, warning triangle and yellow jackets for each occupant of the car, is that what you mean?

For car, insurance certificate and MOT are essential plus something that proves you are the registered keeper.

No one cares about Covid in France except medical professionals and the people letting you in

I said I'd never heard of it in France not that I couldn't work out what it was.

I've been in and out multiple times. No one has ever looked at our paperwork.

Thanks all for all the advice earlier. We had an amazing time in France and cant wait to go back next year!
