Sorry another passport one!

Me and my partner both need to renew our passports and get a first one for dd. We sent ours off fine, but now we’ve come to do Dds and it’s saying we need to send:

her birth certificate
1 parents birth certificates
All 4 grandparents birth certificates
Both sets of grandparents marriage certificates.

Is that right or have we got the form wrong somehow? I can’t understand why they want so much documentation from grandparents but not even a birth certificate from Dh!

Can anyone advise? Thanks

You may find it's better to wait until yourself and DH have current passports before applying for your DD. We got a first passport for DS recently and the only document we had to send was DS's birth certificate, though we did have to provide our passport numbers (both UK nationals).

It's much easier to do the child one once you have your own passports but if you started already then yes you need to prove the child is a British Citizen. I'm assuming you were born after 1983 so you don't automatically have British citizen status www.gov.uk/check-british-citizenship/born-in-the-uk-between-1-january-1983-and-1-october-2000

If you haven't started the application process yet it will be better if it is filled out by the mother than the father if you aren't married. Even better wait for your passports then apply as you just give your passport number to prove you're a citizen.

Wait until you get your passports back and then use your passport numbers on your child's application to prove their claim to British citizenship.

No you don't need all those birth certificates once you provide your passport numbers.

I did our son's first passport online and all it asked for was his birth certificate because I provided both our passport numbers. Start to finish the process took just under 5 weeks.

Thanks everyone. I’m panicking because we’ve got a holiday booked for the summer, more than 10 weeks so thought it would be fine for the passports. Didn’t factor in having to wait for ours to come back before we sent hers!

I know from threads on here that most aren’t taking 10 weeks but still!

I renewed my parents passports this month, one was back in 12 days, the other was printed today so likely to arrive on Monday which is 18 days. A first child passport will likely be quicker if it's done with your passport info as you are already verified.

Maybe book a premium appointment to do the child’s one, that way you get it within 7 days of the appointment. You can usually get an appointment within 3wks, they release appointments daily. My nephew just got his first passport age 6wks

Thanks, I tried to get a premium apt for mine and dhs but could never find any so we’ve sent them to normal way. Hopefully they’re back quick!
