Should I get insurance to cover transit country?

I'm off to Australia soon and going via Qatar. Literally spending a few hours at the airport only, on the way out and back.

I've travelled quite a lot but this is the first time since the pandemic. I've only ever selected the destination country when buying insurance before. But should I be selecting Qatar as a country I'm travelling to even though I'm only transiting, just in case of any issues?

Thanks

Does it not cost more or less the same to get a worldwide policy? I’ve never been insured with a company that asked for country of destination.

There’s usually a choice of Europe / Worldwide excluding USA / Worldwide including USA.

Oh I didn't think of that, I'll have a look thanks. The ones I've seen so far asked for individual countries.

One of the best NHS systems in the world. On site hospital. Ambulance and air ambulance station. Emergency medicinal care is free. Tourists only need insurance if on a tourist visa outside the airport. It's a lovely airport, I hope you enjoy your time there.

If you are buying a policy that requires you to list different countries (like I did recently with Covermore) it is unlikely that adding Qatar to an Australia trip will cost you any more.

That's good to know! I've never flown through Qatar before, always Dubai, pre-Covid. This is my first time going overseas since 2019 so a little nervous but excited too :)

Thanks all!

Single trip policies will, usually, cover you whilst you transit. However, if you plan to do more than one trip abroad in a year then I would pay the small additional cost to buy an annual worldwide policy. This will also cover you for UK trips (assuming you live in the UK).
Read the IPID (insurance product information document) before buying if you can't face reading the policy document!

Yeah I'm in the UK, not sure if I'll be going abroad again this year but maybe good for shorter trips at home, thanks. A lot of the policies I see do ask you to specify the country(ies) you're visiting while some just ask if it's UK/Europe/rest of World so that covers a lot more.

Terrible human rights record and persecution of LGBT people. But you seem to think those are good things so...
