Italy beach ideas

We’ve just got back from holiday in Spain (Valencia) and really loved it, first time abroad since Covid and can’t wait for the next one! We want to go to Italy next. We have a 4 year old and a 5 month old, looking for somewhere with a nice sandy family friendly beach, but also a bit of culture and some ‘sights’ maybe near an interesting town or city, not averse to hiring a car and normally book an air B and B rather than all inclusive. Valencia was perfect as beach in our doorstep, but also the old town was really interesting and lots to do. Any recommendations for Italy for a similar type place?

Not the seaside, but Lake Garda, eg Bardolina or Peschiera del Garda. Pretty towns, lakeside beaches, amusement parks. It's all very lovely and easy. You can take ferries and dot about to different towns on the lake too.

I second this!

Have a look at Marina di Venezia.

We're going to sicily in the summer, haven't been yet but have heard wonderful things and the hotel has a stretch of beach for use just by guests

Cinque Terre! Levante is the biggest town/beach, and the train runs all along the coast between the five towns which are all beautiful (you could also stay in Monterosso, that has a beach but it's a bit smaller)

Maori. It's on the Amalfi coast, about 15 minutes away from Amalfi and a short boat trip from Capri, but it's much cheaper than that area usually is. Pretty little town, nice square in the centre to sit with a ice cream in the evenings whilst the kids play. Black sandy beach, kids' playground, lots of lovely restaurants. We loved it there.

I came on to say lake Garda too

Lake Garda - Peschiara Del Garda definitely.

The beach isn't that sandy from memory though, more pebbles. We took my son when he was 3 and stayed on a family campsite.

We had a brilliant family holiday in Cattolica - bit cheap and cheerful one side was lovely old town and one was cheery town

Op - would you please share the accommodation you stayed in on Valencia? Also looking for an air bnb

I came on to say Lake Garda, beautiful but there are snakes which nobody told me before I went!

Definitely Lake Garda, it's beautiful! It is very busy in the summer though.

Sardinia is also stunning, we had a wonderful family holiday there before Covid. Lots of very beautiful sandy beaches and pretty towns to explore. We all loved it there and my kids are desperate to go back!

Can I ask where you stayed? I'm looking at Sardinia for a summer holiday.
