Has anyone left an Airbnb because they don’t like it and got a refund?

I arrived at my Airbnb this afternoon and it wasn’t cheap, but it was well reviewed (average of 4.8 stars) and the host is a super host. But it’s not that comfortable. A bit dated in a flawed way - sink doesn’t drain properly, broken bits on the shower, shower pressure not nice, beds not comfortable when I had an afternoon nap.

I could get a hotel that is higher regarded for less!

But Airbnb is pretty strict, right?

Anyone left and requested and got a refund because they didn’t like it?

Not liking something isn't a fair reason for a refund on accommodation. If there are genuine faults then or it was missold, yes.

But the fact you mention that you just don't like it twice makes me doubt your reasons.

I can’t tell if the way I feel about it is subjective, or it does look a bit worn out. It looks sparkly in the photos and the reviews are mainly raves. The last few places I’ve stayed have surpassed my expectations - I was probably about due somewhere not as good!

unfussy DH also thinks it’s not as good as it should be for the price.

I known people to get refunds with air bnb but it's when things haven't been at all as described, as well as horribly dirty and/or dangerous.

"Not as good as it could be for the price" doesn't really quality I wouldn't think. And "doesn't look as sparkly as the photos" - that's every place ever isn't it?

You have to be willing to risk it a bit with air bnb, the reviews tend to be more positive than they would be on say trip advisor. I think because it's more personal and people feel bad about critisizing someone's house, especially if they met them.

I think it only works if it’s dirty or misrepresented, otherwise you’re unlikely to get a refund

Just had a problem with an AirBnB stay (place was lovely but key code to enter was wrong - hugely stressful as we were miles from anywhere having been dropped off by a taxi, and host’s contact number didn't work either). Finally got in after 30mins. Complained to AirBnB, and was given a 15% refund, which was fair I think.

I think you have to complain within a certain length of time and not stay there ( unless it's something like bedbugs appearing during the night) to get a refund.

I tend to avoid unless it's a full property, but then I'd much rather stay in a nicely anonymous Premier Inn with an amazing breakfast than somebody's back room.
