Comprehensive insurance for travel this summer - Covid cancellation/treatment - anyone?

Hi all,

We are trying to book what will be our first holiday since 2019, long-haul to see my sister and her family, introduce our 1 year old and get the 4 year old together with his cousins who he's really missed - basically very needed travel! :)

The country where they live has recently opened borders to tourists after closing them for the pandemic. The current restrictions are negative tests before and after travel, and proof of having an insurance policy that will pay out a huge chunk to the local hospitals for Covid treatment if required in the country.

We've contacted some local insurers for this "treatment pay-out" policy, and they've refused to engage because our kids aren't vaccinated. They've advised we should find an insurer in our country to provide this. Anyone got ideas on who to try? Should I contact someone top-end like Hiscox, maybe?

In addition, we need to ensure that once we've paid ££££ for the flights, we'd be covered in the event someone's pre-travel test turned out to be positive and we couldn't go. LV's Covid policy seems to be capped at £1000 which would leave us disastrously out of pocket... Anyone got any leads on insurers who will cover this, or at least have a higher cap?

I realise it's a luxury problem to have! But would be really grateful if anyone who has managed to cover their Covid-related travel risks in a reasonably comprehensive and cost-effective way could share their strategies and/or providers! Seems like this must be do-able but I just can't see how right now and am losing sleep... :)

Thanks! x

Not sure about the cover when you are away but Staysure definitely covers if you can't go because positive

Thanks @rookiemere ! I will try them.
Genuinely stumped though about how most people are insuring their holidays - anyone want to tell me?
:)

Im a bit confused... Most (all?) travel insurance covers your medical treatment abroad? Or are you meaning some sort of extra payment you must make? Which country is it?

WoolyMammoth55 · 13/05/2022 17:40

Thanks @Nootkah - it's Brunei and the regs are: "Foreign nationals entering Brunei for short visit purpose and are staying less than 90 days are required to obtain a Travel Medical Insurance from Brunei-based or overseas insurer with COVID-19 coverage of minimum BND$50,000. The insurance should be valid for the duration of stay in Brunei." So that's the sticking point - the idea that there's this 'minimum' coverage of about £28K if you get Covid! It's a weird one.

Most policies will cover that? Our bank account one does up to 10000 i think, and post office also.. They have three "bands" of co erage (was looming for my sister, our upcoming cruise also has minimum levels of covid cover required).

Sorry .. Medical cover up to 10000000 (10 million) per person for medical expenses, including covid
