Name on covid passport different to passport

Hi! Sorry if this has been asked before, but I’m hoping someone might know the answer…
i got married 18 months ago, and haven’t yet changed my name on passport. Because of this, the name on my NHS Covid Passport is in my married name, and my actual passport is in my maiden name.
We’re travelling in 2 weeks with Ryanair to Portugal.
Does anyone know if just taking our marriage certificate will be ok or if I will be refused to fly?

I would have thought you’d be ok, as you have evidence, but I’m afraid that’s just my best guess! Hope you get there and have a great time.

I’ve just Googled the same problem! Some say ask your GP if they could change you back to your maiden name on your records. Then issue a new Covid passport, some GP will do this but not all.

Other people say they have rang 119 and their advise is get your passport updated to your married name as with two different names you are classed as two different people.

Hope you are lucky with your GP as this seems the easiest option

I had the reverse. Divorced but hadn’t bothered to change my passport back. I took my decree absolute which was accepted so I’d imagine marriage certificate would also be.

When you get married, you have to decide to change your name or keep the same one and stick to it, or official.documents will be a total pain. Get your passport updated. I did mine straight away.

No it’s fine and financially sensible to keep your passport until it runs out but you you must make sure tickets, insurance etc match the name.

From recent experience, the GP can have your surname changed back very quickly.

Failing that, yes a marriage certificate should work. I did this last summer in Portugal.

Thanks for all the advice everyone!
I think I’m just gonna take my marriage certificate and hope for the best!
@CloudPop was your situation the same as mine and your marriage certificate was acccepted?

I’ve just applied for a new passport for exactly this reason. I’d need the passport matching my married name eventually so thought I might as well. Travelling at the end of July so am now in the hands of the passport gods!

WaterBottle123 · 15/05/2022 17:40

Just get your medical records changed back to your name, it's 2022, why are women still going in for this nonsense?

Hi yes my marriage certificate was accepted. However to avoid future stress I subsequently changed my name with the NHS so my vaccine certificate matches my passport.

had exactly this scenario
GP surgery initially said it was impossible but I emailed the practise manager they asked to see my passport and it was all done within a couple of days . The NHS app just changed to my single name.
From family experience i wouldn't try changing a passport at the moment unless you really have to .
