Silly question I know - but seems to be only thing that keeps DD occupied at the mo... will be flying to Florida from gatwick and not sure cos of all regs about liquids and stuff. DH not being helpful and saying stuff like only if we attach wires and a ticking clock

id take it and ask them at the security gate - the worst that can happen is that they take it off you and throw it away

I doubt it tbh

Call the airline and ask

I did last time we flew. no one noticed/ minded.

I take playdough on the plane for ds - you can buy it at the toyshop in Heathrow Terminal 3 and I always tell ds it is not my carpet.

But to be honest, he is usually to engrossed in the cartoons.

i doubt it, we weren't allowed glitter glue that was in a freebie on the front of a magazine

TheYoungVisiter · 11/01/2008 13:34

won't it make a horrible mess? Or is your dd very neat?

I would take it - worst case scenario they make you throw it away at the gate and you've lost, what £2?

mumclaire · 11/01/2008 13:40

Well DD is only 2 so will only have it under v. close supervision so will be careful not to make too much mess - was only going to take a mini pot and some shape cutters. I know its not expensive and will not be a big deal if thrown away at security - but was just wondering really... suppose just panicking about 8 hours on a plane with an active 2 year old

We took ds to states last summer, when he was 2.3 - and I packed a variety of small things in his own roller case:

  • small pots of playdough
  • those crayola pens which are wipe clean - cleaned right off the seat tray, so the staff were fine with us using them - and a notebook to scribble in
  • a pack of stickers - not the expensive ones, but the ones from woolworths which are 99p for 250 - so he could stick them in the notebook and on me and his dad
  • three thomas take alongs
  • small packs of food - biscuits, grapes, cheese crackers, a little chocolate, cereal bars and boxes of raisins
  • a small puzzle
  • a couple of small reading books
  • two motorbikes
  • some duplo in a zip lock bag
  • a blanket and a soft toy

And I did not mind if we lost any of the above by dropping it on the floor of the plane.

It was not as bad as I expected - we basically planned for the worst and it was a bonus.

But if you can, I would suggest a portable DVD player, as they are great. I am taking him to the US again next month, by myself this time and I definitely will be taking the dvd player with me this time.

It is fab for the long drives in the US as well, as we were on the road for 6 hours a couple of times, and that helped. I never use it for a journey under 1.5 - 2 hours, but would for something longer.
