Cyprus in October?

We can’t do a summer holiday this year so are thinking of going to Cyprus in October for a bit of sun. Can anyone recommend a place to stay? We’re a family of 3 vegans (!!!) so AI is probably not worth it for us, but an apartment with access to pools/ a gym/ some activities would be nice. DD will be 9. Dh and I really need to be able to flip beside a pool although I’d love to do some sightseeing too

is Paphos very built up and busy?

Paphos is less built up than somewhere like Limassol and although it’s busy it also has a good atmosphere I think. Can’t help with accommodation though we normally stay about half an hour away in the sticks. I much prefer paphos to the other side of the island, there’s loads to see especially if you have a car

I've just got back from Cyprus. We were in the mountains which was very quiet but we did spend two days in Paphos at the end.

It was quite built up but not too bad and I liked it more than I thought I would. The beach and harbour are nice and although there are large hotels they are not high rise - these seemed to be further out along the coast.

Excellent, thank you! Would you recommend staying somewhere more rural?

We stayed in Paphos last October and I thought it was nice significantly more upmarket than when we last went 9 years ago. The ruins are quite interesting as well. There are a few big supermarkets too (although I don't know if they'd have fake vegan food available), but lots of fresh fruit and vegetables.

The massive negative for us was that the pools are all unheated - as was the water in the water park.

@underneaththeash aargh! Did that make it impossible to swim? Was the sea warm?

Four Seasons Limassol has a big veggie menu and is family friendly. The kids club operates during October half term.

St Raphael Resort (also in Limassol) actually has a vegan restaurant and, from what I gather, the kids club operates all year round.

The supermarkets have food from British supermarkets - as in they have a whole section for Sainsbury or Tesco or whichever. There’s also a Lidl in paphos and fresh fruit and veg are amazing in Cyprus so I’m sure you’ll be able to self cater easily.

The sea will be warm and pools should have warmed up by the afternoon after having the sun on them all day. It’ll be in the mid to high 20s in October so you won’t freeze even if the pool is a bit chilly!

Sea was considerably warmer than the pool. Ours never warmed up. My 11 year old wouldn't get in them!

On the subject of food, the Cypriots are big meat eaters but they do eat what amounts to a vegan diet during Lent, so they do understand the concept.

If you go on to the Tripadvisor Cyprus, you may get some advice on suitable places to eat etc.

We went the last week in October and had a mix of good weather, cool evenings and some rain showers. Pool was freezing, DD wasn't impressed, no idea about the sea though.

The mountains will be quite cool, I think the temerature difference can be significant and for a day trip we needed a coat during the day compared to shorts and T-Shirt at the beach.

Check carefully what is open in the resorts if you go that route, lots we looked at closed 1st November and services were already reduced.

The sea temperature will be around 25-26 degrees. Obviously, cooler at the end of the month than the beginning.
