Has anyone been to Oslo? I'm thinking of a short trip there. Is it worth a visit?

Sorry you haven’t had anyone come along with views. Not sure if any of this will help.

We went to Oslo around 7 years ago. We stopped over on our way to the Arctic. If I’m really honest, I prefer Stockholm. Oslo has some attractive areas and we enjoyed the recently updated Aker Brygge area. We went to the Royal Palace. The Opera House is interesting and there are some good museums. The Kon Tiki raft is preserved there.

I preferred the fiords. They are.spectacular. Oslo is mega expensive. We spent £12 on a coke and a larger in a very ordinary bar. Eating out is very expensive too. As we were not there for long, I didn’t do a lot of research. We had a lovely little hotel which was handy for everything. The Clarion The Hub looks great.

I would recommend you look at Lonely Planet book for recommendations. It’s pretty much a cashless society. You just use your card.

I went to Oslo for a weekend pre-pandemic. If you like cities it will give you what you want, but be warned - it is extortionately expensive! I think it was about £10 for a pint of beer in some places.

Thank you both of you. We are considering Stockholm as well. Whichever it will be a very short trip.

We preferred Stockholm. Visit the Vasa ship. It’s amazing!

We went to Oslo for a long weekend in Jan 2020 and really liked it. It’s expensive, but most Scandinavian destinations are. We visited the Viking museum and the Fram museum, the harbour promenade also has some fantastic restaurants and shops. We were only there four days but there was more we wanted to do. The city itself is easy to get around in, we used the tram and buses. It’s definitely on our list of places to go back to.

I went with dd for the weekend just before lockdown. We really enjoyed it, but it was February and freezing cold. We went to the viking ship museum and the Norwegian Folk museum. And the scary ski jump. We liked the Mathallen which was cool food market. And the Northern Lights expo and the Akerhus fortress. I didn't think food prices were THAT bad, but drinks were extortionate. I would like to go back in the summer and do some boat trips.

Public transport passes were very reasonable - especially for under 16s. Lots of nice restaurants at Aker Brygge. As pp said - you don't need cash.

I love any Scandinavian city and have been to quite a lot of them, all are great and will keep you busy for a short visit, any longer and you'd struggle. I do prefer Sweden though.

Went in January 2020 (Christmas present to DH and myself from our children) - went to the Fram and Kon Tiki, and Viking ship museums, also went to the maritime, folk and resistance museums. Walked around a lot too, especially round the Vigeland park ( with lots of very interesting statues....). As it was January there wasn't a lot of daylight and it was a bit chilly. Eating out was expensive though and alcohol is eye wateringly pricey. Love Norway though, wonderful place. Want to see the North of the country now
