Good sites for booking villas

Can people give me your recommendations for booking villas in various countries in Europe? I've had nice ones in Greece through Vintage Travel and Pretty Greek Villas before and French Connections have some lovely ones in France. Scott Dunn are too pricey for us, but would love recommendations for country specific ones.

We use VRBO! Always been very happy. Used to be HomeAway

The luberon.com
Fabulous french villas.
Mayocoastalcottages houses in the west of Ireland
I have really gone off air B and B they are now more expensive than hotels . What are all the extra charges? I'm stopping using them so will be watching this with interest

Stokey · 03/05/2022 22:27

@rhubarbcrumbl AirBnB are so hit and miss. What I like about the ones I mentioned is they all have a good standard - you're guaranteed a decent pool and reasonably modern facilities.

yes and some kind of third party to intervene if an issue.
we booked an air b ann in italy a couple of years ago good reviews lovely photos but what an actual horror story when we got there. thousand s of ants in the beds . no crockery had to go out and buy stuff . electric cables in the bathroom s laying in the floors!!
was a let yourself in arrangement never met the owner.
so yes it's good to feel someone has looked at the place

Any more recommendations? I'm particularly keen to find some Spaniah ones 😎

@rhubarbcrumbl we had a similar experience a few years ago in Valencia- building site right outside door too-- although we had paid we actually left after 1 night and booked into a modest 3 star hotel

MumHS · 21/02/2023 20:37

Hi @Stokey can I ask about your experience with Pretty Greek Villas. We found a nice villa but we’re nervous about paying by bank transfer! What was your experience with booking and then the actual holiday?

Stokey · 21/02/2023 20:44

Hi @MumHS booking and transfer was fine. The villa was a little tired round the edges but still nice.

Vrbo here too, never had any issues but I read reviews very carefully!

We've booked a nice one in Sicily through Villatravellers, com. They have them throughout Europe. Some really lovely properties!

Actually just seen they're Sicily only. Not sure why I thought they were elsewhere!

Where are you thinking country
wise?

namechanged221 · 21/02/2023 22:32

Villa plus and James villas

Both trustworthy

Frightenedbunny · 21/02/2023 22:32

We have just booked a lovely villa in Cyprus with VRbo. The owners have been very accommodating so far!

Holidayqueen1 · 22/02/2023 06:29

James villas!

Holidayqueen1 · 22/02/2023 15:31

Also Oliver’s Travels have some nice ones but some quite expensive.

Lemonademoney · 22/02/2023 15:32

We’ve gone with Oliver’s Travels this year - so far so good 🤞 James Villas also meant to be good

BIWI · 23/02/2023 00:29

We used James Villas a couple of years ago - but when I wanted to book again last year, they no longer offer villas + flights, which is a bit of a pain.

We ended up using Villas Plus. Villa was fine, but very tired and in need of some TLC, and I reckon that in our week there I ended up emailing the local manager at least 3 or 4 times to come out and fix things.

Holidayqueen1 · 23/02/2023 20:18

Ooh and I forgot, have you looked at iescape or sawdays? The latter don’t do Greece I don’t think but do have France, Spain and Portugal and some of them are stunning!

Stokey · 24/02/2023 18:08

Sorry this was a zombie thread from last year. We ended up going independently and paying vast amounts as we needed a 5 bed villa but had left it really late. Determined not to make the same mistake this year!

www.amivac.com for villas in european countries. Have only been to French ones so far. Also www.gites.fr as an alternative to gîtes de France.
