Copenhagen with 3 year olds x2!
Whyismycatanasshat · 30/04/2022 21:31
Does anyone have any recommendations for Copenhagen with two 3 year olds - good value places to eat, things to do etc.
We are going for 3 days in the last week of May as I have had to use vouchers we got during 2020 from a tour operator and it turns out they had an expiry date. I have managed to get us a deal for Copenhagen but whilst I have been a few times I haven’t ever had to think about feeding children or entertaining them!
I fear the Carlsberg factory is out…
I know of the Tivoli and the zoo but all other recommendations are gratefully received! Thank you!

Science museum. They'll love it. They're not too young, it's really interactive and children based. Also reasonable priced and you can get there on the bus. We ended up going back another tim.

We have been a couple of times, most recently at the beginning of May. My 4 year old loved tivoli and the experimentarium (we spent a whole day here and still didn’t see everything!), and we also enjoyed the national museum of Denmark which has a great children’s museum in the ground floor which is fully interactive.
Food, as expected, is expensive, but we discovered a great street food market https://broensgadekoekken.dk/ which was really family friendly and meant we could all have something different to eat.
And don’t forget to have lots of snacks of pastries, lagkagehuset.dk is a local chain and was a big hit when our kids got hangry!

The National Aquarium of Denmark is amazing. There’s a water playground and tropical rainforest (dc loved spotting the tiny frogs hiding in the foliage). There are shows and various tanks where kids can touch starfish etc…
There’s also the Lego flagship store which has lots of life sized models and displays. There’s also a big area in the middle of the shop where children can build models.

We went to see the Viking ship which was popular with our 2 year old. Also a boat trip although all the photos show me desperately hanging onto him as he tried to crawl out the window to touch the seagulls. The guards outside the palace fascinated him too. Hire some bikes with seats and cycle along the waterfront to the Little Mermaid (very touristy and small but if you’re there…) We also took a train ride to a castle on a Lake - can’t remember where but was only 20mins on the train so not Hamlets castle! Sorry that is all fairly vague but I do remember our 4 days in Copenhagen being a good trip despite the relentless rain!
Get the Copenhagen card - then if you only spend 10mins in somewhere it won’t feel totally wasted.

The aquarium is amazing, the best I have ever been to.

The architecture museum, DAC, has a play area with a big slide in front of it.

I live there OP- great place with young kids- superb modern metro with lifts from street
Here's my tips with young kids
Bakken plus beach- Bakken is the oldest funfair in the world with lots of things for young children , lovely cafes and all set in Hansel and Gretle type woods , 3 minute walk away is the beach at klamenborg -white soft sand plus shade (( 10 minutes out of Copenhagen on train)
Experimentarium at Hellerup (train)
Acquarium
Beach at Amagerstrand (metro) great white sand beach plus activities and Fort
Tivoli- expensive but good and very central
Nice walks along river and lots of parks
Food
Hot dog stands everywhere- best one is next to round tower in centre - amazing too
Cafe Vivaldi chain-- huge portions, you can share with kids they are that big!
Bones- American diner chain quite cheap, lots of all you can eat- good healthy kids menu
Broens (someone mentioned above) lovely open air food market next to docks
Reffens- similar to Broens but bigger with DJs etc (go on boat from harbour)
Grilln burger and Jaggers-- very good and affordable posh end burger chains
MaccyDs - the one at KongensNytorv is suprisingly decent- better than uk

Wow, thank you for all the suggestions!
I will have a good look at them all - I plan on getting a Copenhagen card and making use of public transport but hadn’t thought of hiring a bike - I assume I can find cargo bike hire somewhere and take the children around that way - I have hired a normal bike in Copenhagen before. Great idea!

Anyone been to and rates the Zoo? One of the children would like to go; but I can’t decide if it’s a waste of limited time.

It’s great! Recommend. The ostriches are our favourite. They have great giraffes too.

Thank you, toddler 2 will be delighted; toddler 1 wants to see the little mermaid. I suspect she will be rather underwhelmed despite my warnings and the pictures I’ve shown her!

@Crikeyalmighty Could I ask for some really specific local knowledge; of which I doing most folk would know, but is there a camping/outdoors type store in the centre of Copenhagen?
One of my guiding friends has asked me to bring her something quite specific back; she said I’d get it in a camping/outdoor store if we passed one as she’d bought her last one in Denmark and it’s a popular piece of equipment. I’m not 100% sure what she wants, I’m waiting on her sending me more information, her timing of asking at the start of guides wasn’t great!
Crikeyalmighty · 14/05/2022 19:16
There are lots of 'outdoorsy ' type camping and canoeing shops but I couldn't advise specifically as we aren't camping type people- we don't cycle either!!!!!!

@Crikeyalmighty Thank you. Just knowing there’s some vaguely central is a big help.
