Unvaccinated traveller

A group of us are off to Ibiza in July, one of the party isn't vaccinated therefore as it stands cannot come. The final balance is due next week and we are hoping that Spain will due a u-turn in the next few weeks.

If she pays the full amount does anyone know of any insurance providers that would pay out should Spain keep their current ruling?

Jet2 have already said they would not get their money back.

Insurance won’t pay out when they’ve booked, despite knowing, the country having entry requirements.

Insurance is for unforeseen circumstances.

This is for entirely foreseen circumstances.

So no.

@sundayfarm2021 this article suggests that there may be a change in rules at the end of April www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/spain-italy-covid-travel-restrictions-b2054898.html?amp
I feel sure that the rules will become more relaxed for Spain soon, especially after their blunder last week when they announced travel was allowed for those who are unvaccinated- then reversed it the next day!

Not sure what spain entry requirements are. Can they still do a PCR test for travel?
At least that way insurance will cover if they can't travel...

No insurers would pay out for this. She absolutely knows what the current rules are and that she doesn't meet the criteria. She either pays and risks losing her money or pulls out now.

Could you find someone else to take her place?

@sundayfarm2021 you’re welcome. Good luck to your friend. And I say this as a vaccinated person who’s yawning at some of the other replies on here. The landscape is changing folks.

Pretty stupid to travel abroad in a pandemic even if you’re vaccinated really. 😷

If you can't travel abroad now then it seems it's off the cards forever. The extent to which we are 'in a global pandemic' still is pretty minimal and technical now certainly in the developed world.
Anyone using that phrase now attracts my deep suspicion.
Our current Air BnB is doing remote check in 'because of the global pandemic' or I would reckon because they can't be arsed to come and greet us/ check us in in person on the Easter weekend (which is fine but just be honest about it)

So do Spain not have any mitigation for unvaccinated people? I am in Italy now and there are no restrictions if vaccinated apart from showing your Covid pass but if not then you have to get LFTs every 48h which is presumably an arse and expensive but it is something you can do and still go.

@DoggoShark are you never going to travel abroad again then? Because Covids not going away. I bet Spain is pleased people are travelling as they need the tourism.

Insurance won’t pay out in this situation. Not to mention, insurance should be taken out the minute after you’ve booked the holiday, not weeks after the fact.

It’s entirely possible Spain changes the rules, it’s also entirely possible they don’t. EU citizens have been able to get into Spain with almost no restrictions ever since the pandemic started so Spain’s priority is not to ease off rules for third countries arrivals, as tourism from those countries has been replaced by extra EU tourism and that sector is doing well at the moment.

I do hope you can still all go on the holiday.

Once in Spain, there are no restrictions for unvaccinated people. It’s just the travel rules that prevent tourists from the UK and other non-EU countries to enter Spain unless they are vaccinated or recently recovered. Once there, you can do anything, regardless of vaccination status.

How ridiculous 🙄. Don’t know about you but I don’t intend to spend the rest of my days waxing lyrical about how you can’t holiday anywhere better than the Uk. We’ve been abroad three times since summer 2020 and it’s been fine. Covid is here to stay you know.

Since you can still catch and spread covid yes, and so when will it not be stupid to travel since it will always pose the risk of spread?

Who knows? Maybe it will never be the truly responsible option ever again.

I don’t really care, it’s just seems off to me that so many people have an issue with unvaccinated people travelling but not vaccinated people. Something like 1 in 13 people had covid a few weeks ago, each capable of spreading it. It seems that people are quick to think that having the vaccine makes them selfless. The vaccine is no more to them than a quick injection to most, maybe some side effects for a short time, not much of an inconvenience at all. They’re not really putting themselves out much at all, they’re happy to take the vaccine because it’s fairly easy to them. These same people that want to be seen as selfless and call others selfish, are often not willing to do anything that actually impacts their life like not going abroad. So travel if you want to, you’re allowed, whether it’s actually responsible for anyone regardless of vaccination status, is debatable.

I thought some parts of Spain with let you in if you have had covid within the last 6 months and you can provide a certificate saying so.
