Overnight stop off between St Malo and Dordogne?

Any suggestions please?

We can’t manage the long drive with 2 small DC so need to break up the journey. Any ideas for places to stay en route? Locations or accommodation?

TIA!! Grin

Futuroscope

Futuroscope would be good, or somewhere on the Loire and visit a chateau

If it’s to break up the drive, an overnight stay kind of thing then
La Rochelle?
Hotel Saint Nicolas.

I’d recommend staying in St Malo the night before getting the return ferry. Great old town inside the walls to explore. Plenty of cafes, beaches just outside the walls.

We broke a journey in Chartres. I did a rome2rio and it’s 3 hours from St Malo then about 4 onto the Dordogne (depending where you stay). We splashed out on a four star (only a best western), but it was great and the DC loved it. Amazing breakfast. And there is a fabulous swimming place on the edge of the town with slides indoor and out and a lazy river. We spent a happy day there (with DH in tiny speedos bought from a vending machine 😂).

Thank you - was thinking La Rochelle for one of the journeys and then somewhere else for the other...
any suggestions for family hotel chains? All four of us in one room will be interesting but only for one night I suppose (before we get to our eurocamp!)

Novotels have family rooms, pools mostly, and kids get free breakfast. La Rochelle is lovely. Also Angers.

Just thought - Many of the Ibis styles hotels do a family suite - so 2 rooms, with 1 bathroom. Look on the AllAccorHotels website - they also have standard Ibis and F1 hotels - you can choose from the map.

Which part of the dordogne? When we go we always stop at a beautiful town in the Loire. But it wouldn't be on your way if you were going to the dordogne coast. If your journey takes you via Tour and the A10 check out the town of Azay Le Rideau. Beautiful castle. Easy to explore and walk around.

@GraciousPiglet near Sarlat. Google maps says either route from st Malo, there isn’t much time difference. Please do share your Loire tip?

Thanks for other suggestions too!

Day out:
Dune du Pilat, on the Atlantic coast just south of Arcachon.
