Visiting France in May half term, staying in static home on campsite which is 20 min on RER from Paris. Planning on doing a day trip to Paris with the kids and looking for any recommendations on must see/do. Obviously want to see main landmarks - is it worth doing open top bus or river tour for these? Is it worth paying to go up the Eiffel Tower? Also Catacombs look interesting...any advice appreciated!

We took dd when she was 8 & we did the Eiffel tower at night which was pretty fabulous.
We also did the batobus & we all loved hopping on & off that. Loveky to go under the bridges
We did lots of eating too
We're going again next year - dd now a tee so really looking forward to that

Do you have an obsession with graves and death? I’ve been to Paris a number of times and never felt the need to talk about death or visit graves. The lessons my DC learnt were about culture, art, buildings, language and food. Seemed to inspire them more than death.[/quote]
Er, no! Père Lachaise is a very famous, very beautiful cemetery, and a wonderful place for a walk (we were visiting the nearby Atelier des Lumieres). It’s also where Rossini is buried (we are opera fans).

We live in Paris, though, so we have plenty of time to teach our son about food and culture 🤷‍♀️.

If your family are all relatively fit then one of the best possible things you can do is the Sandeman's Walking Tour - the city is so compact that it only takes around 3 hours to see many of the most beautiful locations.

You'll get a funny, charismatic guide who lives in Paris and is very knowledgeable about the history and you'll fit in far more sights than you could by bus, boat or metro. You'll also pick up great tips for the best ways to see other sights with the minimum time spent queueing.

The tour is free (but I promise you'll enjoy it so much that you give your guide a few Euros).

Once you have walked around the city centre you quickly gain a sense of where everything is - this confidence will make trips to Paris in the future even more enjoyable.
