Child Passport Validity

Hello,

Looking for comfort/clarity please on whether I need to renew my daughters passport.

It was issued in April 17, expires Dec 22. Therefore valid for 5yrs 8 months in total. There will be more than 6 months left on return.

We are going to Tenerife, she is 9.

The passport is under 10 yrs old.

My concern is that a child's passport is valid for 5 yrs - with our issue date being April and expiry Dec will that be an issue?

I've rung the passport office they were unable to confirm. Told me check Spains entry requirements. Once I'd read all about the covid red tape - I'm still non the wiser!

I've checked various websites, there's no mention of child passport validity issues.

They just state that we need less than 10yrs on the passport and 3-6 months validity.

Has anyone else had this thought concern? Am I overthinking it?

Any guidance appreciated!

Thanks

I think it only seems to be a problem for passports that go over 10 years. I think you should be ok

I have literally just found that article!

It's one of those things I just didn't want to overlook and then get caught out by.

Thank you

I just posted a very very similar query! When are you due to go? I’m inclined to think that as long as no passport is more than 10 years old it’s ok?

Also saw this on visaguide.world:

*According to the EU’s rules of entry on passports, only travelers whose passports have been issued within the last ten years can enter the country. When Home Office amended the checker, it removed the nine months from adults’ passports. Wrongly, it also removed the nine months from children’s passports, though the latter were valid as they were shorter than ten years valid in total.

After the glitch was reported by parents, the Home Office took down the same tool*

I think we’re ok??

I think we're ok.

I would just like an official, 'you're ok' from someone in authority! (I'm trying not to think too deeply about what that means!)

I'm just desperate for a holiday and am thinking something will go wrong!

We've recently had covid.

We go in May.

I could do a f2f, but I don't want to pay and if I renew now I think I'll get caught out with when she needs an adult one!

I've just posted a link to another guardian article from March, and screenshot the bit about children.

Fingers crossed it's all good x

Can I please ask if you managed to clarify this situation?

justtryingtogeton · 04/07/2022 13:26

Hi all was fine as the child’s passport is under 10 yrs old. Just make sure you have enough validity for the country you’re travelling to.

Thank you I have got myself all worked up for nothing hopefully. He will have over 6pm that left on it when we get back it will just be that the passport is over 5 years old

I've had so many emails, texts and app notifications about this I've double checked numerous times, also messages about checking entry requirements when there are none and arriving early at the airport, but don't come too early. I was already in need of a holiday to help with my anxiety, I'm finding this quite stressful.
