... or somewhere in Europe, with a nice, sandy beach, for a week in August! Just want to get away with the family (kids 7 and 12) - want warm weather, not too long a flight, nice food, family-friendly and relaxing!

Been looking online and keep finding things in the reviews that are off-putting (eg pebbly beach, or rowdy travellers etc).

Appreciate any recommendations you might have - don't mind if package or booking separately - thank you!

@BigSandyBalls2015 do you have any specific recommendations? 🙏

Spatling - we’re not keen on the typical hotel block situation. When we were sitting in the balcony you have a thin partition and you can hear everything. There’s no privacy at all. The rooms are also typically hotel like, very bland. Food wise, I prefer simple but fresh food when in Greece, it was all a bit mass market. The beach was very good though. Corfu also didn’t really appeal to us, it was full of Brits and the island itself is also less like the Greece I love. I totally accept this makes me sound like a snob but I am when it comes to paying for five star hotels/resorts and they don’t quite hit the mark. We stayed at the Danai in Halkidiki which we loved, it just suited us better.
We stayed at Ikos in September and there were a lot of young kids, they all suddenly left and very old people arrived. They obviously came because the prices dropped. I personally don’t want to come down to drinks in the evening to find people knitting in the bar/foyer. It’s not what I want on holiday.

Also, @Splatling, check out some of the cashback sites for the big hotel booking websites. I usually get up to 10% extra back from those too which can be a fair amount on an Ikos or similar holiday.

UnaOfStormhold · 05/04/2022 09:40

Another Neilson fan here, they're fantastic for activities for adults and kids.

CorsicaDreaming · 05/04/2022 09:40

Some really good suggestions thanks

Splatling · 05/04/2022 09:50

Thanks so much @billycorn for sharing, food for thought indeed ...

@alpinia That's a good idea - I think I've left it a bit late for this year, but I'll see if there are any last minute deals to be had Smile

Neilson are great & the food is only included on 4 nights so you get to try out the local taverners too. To be honest when you are in the resort you could be anywhere but there are plenty of opportunities to get out & about whether on bikes, a trip or hiring a car. We went to Messini & the rooms were great (except for the glass door on the bathroom which had gaps at the top & bottom - don't share with someone you don't know well!)

Rainbowshit · 05/04/2022 10:30

Whatever you do don't go to Atlantica Akti Zeus. The huge ugly power station right next door ruined it for us.

SFisnotsimple · 05/04/2022 11:16

Not entirely accurate about Corfu - have you been to the NE of the island?!

SFisnotsimple · 05/04/2022 11:18

And massive massive ROFL at not wanting to be in a hotel with old people Confused

I'd suggest a private villa if people offend you so much

NeedleNoodle3 · 05/04/2022 15:16

I’m one of the older people who go in September, I’m 53!

FoodieToo · 05/04/2022 22:05

I'm heading to Ikos with my pals for my 50th .No knitting though - wouldn't want to offend anyone !!!

Housetreecar · 05/04/2022 22:20

Ikos. Seriously good

Mitsis Faliraki Beach is lovely with several pools and is right on the lovely Sandy beach. It's just at the edge of the resort so we didn't have any noise but had things like crazy golf etc that might suit your dc. We didn't use the resort of Faliraki at all except that I daily walked along the beach to a tiny harbour with a wee church and taverna! DC stayed in hotel or beach mostly and we took local bus(stop at hotel) into Rhodes Town and Lindos.
DS favourite part was the poolside snack bar, I liked the a la crate restaurants and poolside cocktails being delivered to my sun Ed!!

This was a great non chavvy all inclusive. We booked through BA. It was £2.4k for 4 of us during October HT. barely spent any additional £ and lovely big room.

Damsel · 10/04/2022 18:32

Can highly recommend Neilson holidays. They have several resorts in Greece. Lots of activities & really good kids clubs.

Also for those asking about sulky teens! They have “kids” clubs up to age 17, which my teen enjoyed (when she was a teen).

storminabuttercup · 10/04/2022 18:42

Mitsis hotels are great, we've done blue domes on Kos, Laguna on Crete and faliraki beach hotel, all great. Faliraki is less luxurious but has the benefit of being a very easy bus ride to the water park, kalethea springs and of course rhodes town. Blue domes had more going on for the kids, but not much near by. The Laguna probably the least going on but DC were too young for kids clubs anyway. I'd go back to them all in a flash

What's your budget?

gogohm · 11/04/2022 19:38

TUI magic life would be a good kid/teenager option as lots of sports

Ragwort · 11/04/2022 19:44

Another recommendation for Neilson - we went with our 17 year old DS who loved it, initially said he 'wouldn't join in with anything' ... he turned into the life and soul of every activity going and the organiser for events when nothing was planned Grin. Plenty for everyone whether you want to be super active or just sunbathe and swim all day.

Mitsis hotels are very good in Greece, blue domes in kos is our fav

I’m thinking about blue domes for October . I’m worried as I read restaurants is on a hill, cold pools and that it is a wind tunnel but so many other great reviews. Please help ! Not sure? Thanks xx
