Italy- Does an 11 year old (unvaccinated) still need a fit to fly Covid test?

Hi, I'm seeing conflicting information on this...

We're flying to Italy on Weds 6th and was going to book a covid test for 11 year old daughter who hasn't been given her vaccines yet. But on the UK government website it says 11 and under doesn't need a Green Pass (might be a change from 1st April?). However Ryanair's chat bot says everyone over 5 does.

Is there anyone in the know please?

Age 6 & over?

Yes. Kids over 6 need a test if un vax.

The green pass is separate from the fit to fly tests. Your child will need fit to fly test to enter Italy. As she is under 12, she doesn’t need a green pass to enter restaurants etc with you. Once 12 and if unvaccinated, she would then need a covid test every 48 hours in order to have a green pass.

Thank you all- sorry I got swept up in errands. That's helpful- I was mixing up the green pass and fit to fly test.

I'll have to book one of those. I'm imagining it's too late to do a cheaper postal test. I was holding out on ordering one as someone said the rule might change on 1st April so to wait. No such luck!

Does anyone have experience of the Fit To Fly test and best way to do it at this stage, three days before travelling?

Thanks all

We flew in to Italy today, nobody checked our covid status & nobody has checked our passenger locator stuff.

If it’s an LFT you can do it at the airport - the results are emailed usually within the hour. Our local pharmacy offers it too.

Oriunda · 03/04/2022 00:09

Try the Randox website. They do lft for £11 if you click and collect. You might be able to get one delivered by Tuesday though; we’ve always used Chronomics who send them out immediately.

Moneysavingexpert has a page dedicated to cheap covid tests, including those at the airport or pharmacies.

Brilliant- thank you all- booked and collected a Randox test which she'll take tomorrow and upload to get certificate. Great advice- many thanks!

Please note that your daughter will need to do a LFT also before leaving Italy to come back to the UK.
The new rules that started on 1st April have kept the green pass (either vaccination or negative test) for all flights and trains so anyone which will take a flight from any italian airport will need to show the green pass

Do they? Reading into it, it looks like the super green pass/ green pass requirement only relates to children aged 12 and over. I can’t find anything about children under 12 needing to do lfts in order to travel.
questionsneverstop · 04/04/2022 18:38

Oriunda, so sorry I got the info mixed up. No, under 12 kids do not need it.
Sorry for the wrong information

Rosebuddleia · 05/04/2022 13:55

Phew! I got her LFT test result and certificate almost instantly, uploaded the dox and hope we're sorted Confused

We are in Italy now with my 14 and 11y olds. 14yr old has had her vaccinations and has an NHS pass. We all got the pass scanned at one restaurant (and DS was not as under 12 which they took our word for) but every other attraction, restaurant, hotel, transport etc hasn't checked.

The 11yr old we got a fit to fly test done but again no-one at the airport checked that nor our NHS passes nor the passenger locator form. We also got FFP2 masks and wore them but many people had normal surgical or cloth ones and were not stopped.

I guess it's Sod's law we would have needed it all if I hadn't wasted the money on it.

Rifling · 07/04/2022 18:23

The rules on ffp2 masks were relaxed on April 1st.

Rosebuddleia · 12/04/2022 07:53

We're back now. Wonderful holiday!

We had the same experience, Covoid. No checks on any documents anywhere (although I'd uploaded them onto Ryanair so I don't know if they looked at that when looking at boarding passes)...

Re. FFP2 masks- they did make people wear these to go through the checks at Verona airport and made people buy one if they were wearing a surgical mask, and on one bus the driver would not allow people on if they were wearing a surgical mask. He also stopped the bus to tell off one passenger who dropped his mask! So I wouldn't have done without the FFP2 masks for now.

Planning next visit already! Smile

You can buy FFP2 masks everywhere at the moment so I wouldn't worry about buying loads in advance.
