Nashville -October 22

DH and I will be celebrating our anniversary in Nashville this October staying at The Fairlane.

We both love country music, booze and American food so we'll be able to fill a couple of days/night with honky tonks and a tour of the Jack Daniel's distillery but any other hidden gems!?

Excised to get back to the states after a few years of being stranded in the UK!

Highly recommend a backstage tour at the Grand Ole Opry and trying to catch one of the shows there if you like country music. The Ryman also does backstage tours, although there's probably no need to do both.

I'm assuming you're hiring a car if Jack Daniels is on the itinerary. Lynchburg is a considerable distance from Nashville.

If you'll be in Lynchburg for any amount of time, book a meal at Miss Mary Bobo's, a real Southern experience.

I've not been to Nashville since I was 10, but remember the Parthenon replica. Worth a visit just to gawp at the outside.

The Country Music Hall of Fame is excellent and so is the Johnny Cash Museum.

If you like BBQ food, do not miss Martin's. Absolutely delicious!

If you're there in October then you could go to an ice hockey or American football game, both are huge entertainment events even if you're not that interested in either sport.
The weather starts to get a bit chilly in October but there's lots of rooftop bars if it's warm enough, The Bobby has a fun one which is next door to The Fairlane. The Graduate Hotel has a really fun Dolly Parton themed rooftop called White Limozeen, part of the restaurant is indoors so not so weather dependent.
If you have a car then Belle Meade Mansion is a perfectly preserved antebellum house with its own winery and free samples at the end of the tour!, it's about a 15 minute drive from downtown.
About 30 minutes out of downtown is Franklin, which has a traditional Main St with lots of fun shops and restaurants, they also had Segway tours running last time I was there.

Thanks all!

We won't have a car- the JD distillery is an organised trip! (I don't plan to be sable to drive a lot of the trip! WineWine)

Nashville has NO public transit but we have really good Uber coverage so you can get around pretty easily (there's also electric scooters to hire on every downtown corner but they have a very dubious safety record!)

We're going to Nashville for the first time in September, also staying at the Fairlane!

I am so excited, our plan sounds similar to yours OP, eat drink and be merry.

So far my plan is:
I've downloaded a walking tour, so it covers all the main downtown stuff, and we're going to walk out further to Centennial Park.
I've also got a mural map so can hopefully spot some of them on our way round.
I want to drink in the Gulch, Music Row, Printers Alley, Broadway
We have tickets for a show at the Grand Old Opry so will go see the Opry Mills (but I hate shopping so will be a quick visit, more to eat there before the show than to actually shop) and see the Opryland conservatory.
I can't decide whether to do the Country Music Hall of Fame or the Johnny Cash museum. I don't think we'll do both.
A distiller tour

Will basically be:
Explore all morning (I love a walk)
Early afternoon nap (I just need half an hour after lunch and all my jet lag is gone!)
Drink in the afternoon
Eat dinner (we're not fancy eaters)
Drink and dance all evening.

3 months to go!
Have a fabulous time OP

@Curlybrunette how was your trip?

We go on Monday, I am so excited I am giddy!

So far we have planned:
Monday - arrive teatime
Tuesday - Walking tour (self guided), Tennessee state museum, the farmers market and somehow I managed to get tickets for the Bluebird Cafe
Wednesday - spending the day at the Opryland resort, Opry mills for dinner then a show at the Grand Ole Opry
Thursday - walking mural tour, have the afternoon/evening free will definitely be bar hopping
Friday - DH has organised a surprise (I really have no idea what), fly home Friday night.

Can't wait!

I'll let you know how it's been when we come back x

Franklin is a lovely town about 20 minutes drive away - a lovely place to spend a morning having brunch etc.

over2021 · 21/09/2022 11:20

@Curlybrunette exciting!

Have you got a car or are you relying on Uber?

@over2021 @Curlybrunette how were your trips?

Curlybrunette · 11/10/2022 13:28

Thanks for asking @treetoptina it was awesome!

We absolutely loved it, what a mad, loud, crazy place.

We pretty much stuck to the itinerary and really loved it.

@over2021 The Fairlane Hotel was brilliant, amazing location and the staff were so friendly. There's free coffee in a morning in the reception area, or from the adjoined bagel shop if there isn't a pot out. Just show your hotel key.

The bus station is a couple of minutes walk away so we used that rather than ubers, or just walked. We averaged about 23,000 steps a day.

Fabulous!
