Summer Alps - but where?

We are toying with a trip to the Alps for a June holiday. 2 adults, no kids. No idea where to start, haven't even narrowed down a country! Can anyone help? We'd like walks, OH would like mountain biking, I'd quite like horse riding but could go to a spa for the day if no option for that. We'd probably also like a lake or river or something, and a spa/thermal centre. We love a good mooch around a town or city and markets. I think we would prefer not to have to hire a car and would want a hotel rather than self catering I think but could be persuaded either way.

I realise there's an awful lack of focus in this but I'm struggling to find a starting point, there seem a lot of options! I'd really appreciate some pointers of places you've either been and loved or been and disliked!

Agree Chamonix is lovely in the summer - and if it's hot you can take the cable car to the top (nearly) of Mont Blanc where there will definitely be snow! Or take the funicular to the Mer de glace. If you wanted to split your trip, the Annecy area is lovely too - proper picturesque old town with lots of restaurants, and trips on the lake. Mountains not far! All a short hop from Geneva.

Champery in Switzerland. Traditional Swiss village, so beautiful and the train goes right into the village. There's a cable car that takes you up into the Portes du Soleil, where you can connect with lifts that take your all over, including into France.

There's a river, outdoor and indoor pools, ice rink, amazing walks, a go ape type place, tennis courts, tandem paragliding, ebike hire, I could go on Grin. Hotel National has a spa (haven't stayed there but it gets great reviews). There was also a spa in the next village with thermal pools, think that's still there too. It's one of my favourite places in the world, can you tell Grin If you're there for Swiss National Day, there's loads going on, ending with a fantastic fire lit parade through the village.

I would opt for Italy, cheaper and food is absolutely delicious. We went to Ortisei in the German speaking part and Macugnaga. We have been to Megève in France, absolutely gorgeous , but it was winter , not summer, not sure how it is in June/July.

One thing to know, in Italy, they eat later in the evening. Dinner is served around 7.30 pm in hotels.

@SunnySomer I love Leukerbad, we were lucky to have friends who had a holiday home there, and we were invited several times for a skiing holiday years and years ago. We lost contact. You made me think of them. Thank you!

Morzine is great in the summer. Lots to do ( we had great weather too)

Zell am See/kaprun Is probably my favourite though.

Have to say we went to Zell am See one summer and it was ridiculously busy to the point we couldn’t enjoy it. It’s a very popular destination.
