Best European Destination for Sunshine early April?

Hi All

After waiting too long to see what Italy was doing with their super green pass we have missed the boat for skiing and now looking for some sunshine in Europe (not Cyprus as need PCR when arrive nor Spain due to unvax kids). Have been looking at Canaries, Portugal or maybe Greece? Which would be the best Canary island for 1st week April? Have been to both Lanzarote and Fuertevena before but only in July. Canaries now an option as read they have removed all restrictions. Tricky with 12yr olds!
Thanks in advance!

You do realise the Canaries ARE Spain? As you said, under 12s are exempt from Covid requirements and 12-18 year olds can use either one of negative test/recovery/vaccination certificate.

Both south / east coasts on mainland Spain, Balearics and Canaries should have good weather early April. Are you looking for beach and unheated pool-friendly weather, or just sun and warm-ish temperatures for sightseeing?

Doh I misread the news articles! What a divvy so can't do Canaries! Basically some sports, pool time, nice food.... .. maybe Portugal , Greece or Turkey in that case!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but with 12 yr olds I think you'll find it hard to find a destination rather doesn't at least require a negative pcr test, if they're unvaccinated.

CJay81 · 26/03/2022 14:46

Greece requires a test for unvaccinated over 5"s (lateral flow, doesn't have to be pcr). Looks like restrictions will change Greek Easter, not first week of April. They had a really cold March, temps have only just started rising a bit. Season doesn't really get going till after Easter.

Do you want somewhere with no testing at all? Or no testing on arrival? Those are different, and the former will really limit your options. The latter allows you to go places like Spain.

Theonlyoneiknow · 26/03/2022 15:45

Happy to do lateral flow 24/48hrs before. Would prefer not to test on arrival. I thought I had all the info but it would appear not!!! We were planning on skiing in Italy but meant 12 yr old needed to test every 48hrs and again before coming home although they are changing it from 1st April it isn't concrete (to me!)

Have just had a stressful start to the year and desperate for a week away where I don't have to think... especially about what to cook.!

Appreciate all the advice.

For Spain you need a PCR in the 72 hours prior to arrival, for unvaccinated under 18s. The Canary Islands are in Spain. Why is Spain off the table? You won't have to test once there.

gogohm · 26/03/2022 15:55

I'm not aware of any eu countries that don't require some sort of testing for 12 year olds. Vaccines have been available for months now

TuxedoJunction · 26/03/2022 15:56

I suggest Turkey. Just need proof of vaccination for anyone over 12.

I'm currently in my garden in my bikini, in March, in Scotland! Can't guarantee it'll be like this in April though as I believe snow is forecast for next week Grin.
I think April can be pretty changeable throughout Europe.
Know several people currently holidaying in Mexico, no restrictions at all. Maybe a bit far for a week though!

Theonlyoneiknow · 26/03/2022 16:11

12yr old will not be vaccinated in time due to his DOB hence looking for somewhere we only need a negative test to enter (beforehand not on arrival). Am also in Scotland and have holidayed here for past 2yrs. :-)

Crete or Rhodes are getting warmer then and bath lovely for families

Ratatoo · 26/03/2022 16:48

Both. Not a bath. I don't want to start the sharing bath water discussion again Grin

"Crete or Rhodes are getting warmer then and bath lovely for families"

You can't guarantee he won't need a test on arrival in Crete or Rhodes though. Although I don't know how many random tests they are doing.

butmumineedit · 26/03/2022 17:51

What about Egypt- will be lovely and warm and looking at requirements will need a negative pcr before you go.
