Would you go to New York on your own?

Has anyone been to New York on their own?
I've wanted to go to New York for a very long time and after some difficult years I've decided to treat myself. The problem is due to various reasons my partner can't come so I'm looking at going on my own.
Will I enjoy it as much on my own? Or is part of the experience eating out together, seeing the sights together etc?
I know I will be able to do exactly what I want to do and see without my partner moaning about walking or getting up late but I'm worried I will not enjoy it as much as if he was able to come.
Anyone been on their own? Is it a solo traveller destination?

I’d do Boston like a shot in the fall (autumn) the ether Dome my biggest attraction.

I think it's quite a solo friendly city, tourist attractions are often better solo because you spend the amount of time you want to and there's so many options for restaurants who will be used to solo diners because of the type of city it is. Easy to get cheap last minute show tickets too, I wasn't solo in new new York but in London I've approached the box office of top sold out shows about 4pm and got a premium for just the cheap ticket

Yes - I have done a few times - I was on work trips. So saw colleagues during the week for work stuff but did NYC on my own at the weekend. I'd rather have had company for dinner - but I quite enjoyed doing the 911 museum by myself - I got the audio guide and got really absorbed into it without being distracted by anyone else.

I would recommend getting a good Central hotel. I (probably really obviously) stayed in the YMCA in Harlem and felt very unsafe! I don't think hostels in US are the same as other parts of the world.

Because of the soundproofing and noisy aircon, it is perfectly fine to stay in the Times Square area where you can walk to so many other places. I would not consider staying in the burbs or Brooklyn, especially as a solo traveler. Otherwise, Chelsea is a possibility because you have the foodie market for breakfast and snacks, The Vessel, The Edge and the Witney right there as well as the new attraction (cannot remember name).

I so want to go back right now!!

Pineapple is a nice hotel.

I'd do it! I'd stay lower East, kind of China town way.

I love new york. Would I go alone? No. But that's just me and nothing to do with the city itself.

Book the nicest hotel you can. And near nice places to eat. I'd happily go there on my own.

One of the happiest city breaks I've been on was London on my own for a week - I ate at all the places I wanted to, went to see a show or something similar every night, went to the museums. Sat and people watched a lot.

So city breaks on my own - I'm a fan.

Yes, I would. Lots of amazing things to see and do, so you will be busy. I'd recommend NY public library, Grand Central Station, Greenwich Village, Lower East Side, Tenements Museum, Katz Deli. The Brits Guide to New York is worth buying as it gives you suggested walking itineraries with food stop offs along the way.
