Quebec/Montreal

We have just booked flights to Canada in October - seems to be a popular choice as I have seen several Canada threads in the last couple of days.

We will be flying into Montreal and also want to spend some time in Quebec.

Any recommendations for hotels in either city?

We tend towards the quirky/unusual rather than the obvious chains.

Our budget isn't unlimited but happy to spend a bit more for something very special.

Thanks in advance.

Definitely do a train one way between them! Went 3 years ago. Hotel nelligan in Montreal was lovely.

I l9ved quebec but can't remember where we stayed but it was a bit chain. The old quarter was beautiful

Thank you.

Funnily enough I was looking at the Nelligan this morning.

Will definitely look at the train.

Years ago we stayed here in Monteral:

That will fit quirky definitely.

We flew into Monteral, but did a road trip for a week before ending in Quebec for 3 days and then drove back to Monteral with an overnight stay andn 3 days Montreal.

I can't remember the hotel. in Quebec, sorry.

I would love to go back, it is amazing. We went the first two weeks in October and it got already. really cold during the night.

Lucky you. Hire a car and visit the Eastern Townships, 'L'Estrie'. These are small towns and villages to the East of Montreal.

Have your read any of Louise Penny's Inspector Gamache books?
They are set around Montreal and L'Estrie in particular.

@reluctantbrit That looks lovely. Right up our street! We are going in late October so expecting a bit of cold.

@pascalpascal Thanks for that. I'll have a look for those books. I like the Kathy Reichs ones. Great descriptions of Quebec.
