Holiday packing

I am very excited to be taking a trip abroad somewhere sunny very soon. I have the not so taxing dilemma of what to pack. We are going for 2.5 weeks. In hotels. So do I pack 20 pairs of knickers etc, an outfit for everyday etc. How can I economise my packing?

I wear trousers, jeans, t shirts at least twice on holiday, so just mix and match things. I take a tube of travel wash to wash knickers and bras, depending on whether there is somewhere to hang them to dry, usually shower rail.

Vicliz24 · 17/03/2022 14:45

I only ever take 4 pairs of knickers including the ones I travel in and two bras again only 1 in my case . A tube of travel wash and hang them either on the balcony or in the bathroom to dry .

Last time I went away for 3 weeks I packed 1 weeks worth of stuff and had it all service washed and dried twice while I was away. I'd researched in advance that there would be a laundry close to where I was staying at each point. It was Central America though so cost very little to have it done.

I only wear knickers at night. You are in a bikini all day. Just take mix and match. Tops and skirts that can do for night or little sun dresses. You can easily wash stuff. It dries in no time

Thank you. 4 pairs of knickers has kind of blown my mind! I normally completely overpack and have clothes for all the days. But I like the idea of being more minimalist.

On MN you get two kinds of packers

  1. Four pairs of pants and a spare t shirt. All in a carry on case.
  2. Packing list running to several pages, 7 bikinis, a different outfit for every evening etc.

I'm nearer the second. I believe a luggace allowance needs to be filled and I am not doing laundry on holiday.

Naturist holidays are excellent for reducing the need for textiles and subsequent washing out.

liveforsummer · 17/03/2022 17:02

I'd pack for a week like a pp then do a wash. Most hotels have self serve machines or a washing service.

BookwormButNoTime · 18/03/2022 07:43

Hotel washing service definitely. I tried hand washing stuff but got annoyed at it hanging around drying (who wants to look at laundry on their hols????). If I am going for two weeks I’ll pack for 8 days then get a service wash done on day 7.

Make sure things go together so you can mix and match.

We went away on a driving holiday for over 2 weeks a couple of years ago and I had to really think about this, for a start I didn't own anywhere near 14 pairs of pants.
I took 2 nighties
About 10 pants and 3 bras
5or 6 pairs of socks
2 skirts and about 4 t shirts to wear in the day
A couple of t shirt dresses for very hot/ beach days
A costume
A cardigan
A jumper
Sandals/ trainers
A couple of slightly more formal, suitable for eating in cities outfits.
I had to do very little washing ; just pants and a couple of t shirts.
I didn't feel restricted at all ; in fact I had to buy for the holiday as I have very few clothes.

I buy new holiday pants Blush

For a two week holiday I’d probably take 7 evening outfits and 7 day ones (a mixture of sunbathing stuff and day trip things depending on the location. I’d take 7 pairs of knickers and wash them in the sink. I have a few dresses that can be day or evening wear depending on what footwear and accessories I wear.

Fatgalslim · 18/03/2022 14:35

I always book accommodation with a washing machine so take enough for a few days and wash in between

Comfortableatlast · 18/03/2022 14:36

We fly Club to Malaga every summer, I do my best to hit the luggage allowance but fail miserably. Grin

Two bags each weighing 32 Kilos.

I think I should aim for something like this (I know I'll go over!)

I try to colour coordinate separates, so everything is mix and match. If it is a beach/pool holiday most of your evening clothes will only be worn for a few hours, so you will be able to wear them 2 or 3 times.
