Amsterdam with a teen- things to do

HappeeInParis · 12/03/2022 18:45

Planning a weekend in Amsterdam with teenage DD. On the list so far are the Anne Frank house and Van Gogh museum. We have done the Rijksmuseum before.

Any ideas for things to do, places to stay or eat would be gratefully received.

The church in the attic is surprisingly good. Eat apple pie…

HappeeInParis · 12/03/2022 19:36

Ooh, I've never heard of that- looks really interesting. Thanks.

Go to the Tonys Chocolonely shop and create your own bar!

Pancake canal cruise and This Is Holland 5D flight

Is she interested in science or biology at all ? Body Worlds exhibit is fascinating and Nemo museum is fun (also its free roof terrace is a very nice place to rest on a sunny day).
Get the chips with mayo, practically at every corner.

My 16 year old enjoyed the canal cruise, and a day out at the windmills, and the Maritime museum.

He toleratad the Van Gough musuen to be nice to his poor old mum and in exchange for cake in the cafe.

Ted27 · 12/03/2022 19:47

The Micropia science musuen was also a hit. Doesnt take too long to get round so we combined that with a visit to the zoo which was next door

easysundaymorning · 12/03/2022 19:49

The body works museum would be amazing for you. It's fascinating x

HappeeInParis · 12/03/2022 19:50

Oh wow, great ideas. Thank you everyone!

Go to the Stedelijk museum (Contemporary Art) has world class art exhibitions. www.stedelijk.nl/nl.
Would also recommend renting a small boat to take across the canal ring with someone like MokumBoat, you can pilot it yourselves and take on some nibbles and drinks and it’s a beautiful way to see the central canal ring.

I'm booked to go in July and we are doing the Anne Frank House and going to efteling theme park for two nights it's an hour and a bit away from Amsterdam but there are buses and trains to get there. I'm going to hire a car and drive it. Enjoy!

hedgehogger1 · 12/03/2022 20:13

Oh we liked nemo but mine are younger. Mind you us parents liked it. The zoo is mostly good.

Bagelsandbrie · 12/03/2022 20:16

It was a lifetime ago that I went with my mum (I went when I was 17 and I’m now 41) but one of my favourite memories is a canal boat trip. And wandering around the main shopping areas at night and having waffles with ice cream.

hedgehogger1 · 12/03/2022 20:16

And Efteling is fab :) make sure you have poffertjes while you're there

Riverlee · 12/03/2022 20:18

I think the Anne Frank museum can have long queues, so may be worth checking.

The science museum is quite good.

The zoo there was fabulous if your DD likes animals, though it's been many years since I went last!

jd88123 · 12/03/2022 20:45

@hedgehogger1 how many days did you need for Efteling? Did you stay there? We have one of the special themed suites booked, hope its worth it!

hedgehogger1 · 12/03/2022 21:19

We've stayed there once. You get early access to beat the queues for the big rides. I do like having a wander through the fairy tale bit too. We've been a few times. It is good :)

jd88123 · 12/03/2022 21:35

Thanks sorry for jumping on your post op

Schulte · 17/03/2022 07:14

We’re going too. The food hall is on my list, and hanging out in Vondelpark. And just wandering around!
