Father and Son Trip - sun & history main criteria

My DH and eldest DS are planning a week away in May. Son very interested in politics / history. Husband is also, but main preference would be to lie in the sun - or perhaps to do a bit of a road trip.

I’ve suggested Pompei, various parts of Greece, Morocco, Jordon and Split/ Hvar.

Any other good suggestions?

Israel is fantastic here is a few of the lesser well known areas, I think you will need more than one holiday!

Now thinking Istanbul, Gallipoli and Troy!

My DH and DS (history undergrad) were going to do this together with Capadoccia and a couple of other places in Turkey as a father and son trip tgen covid shut Turkey so they ended up in Greece for a different and shorter trip.

Lots of great suggestions. I’m keen to do Belfast and Berlin but neither fulfill the beach criteria.

@SeasonFinale how funny! Hope they had a good time. Travel has been so curtailed in the last few years. We are all poorer (if not financially) as a result.

Berlin has a number of proper beaches and it can be really warm in May, possibly not as hot as you have in mind.
