Ziller valley from Munich

Hi everyone

Just wondering if anyone can give me an idea of the journey from Munich to the Ziller valley ( staying near Fugen )? Just trying to work out whether it’s better to pay the quite a lot extra for flights to Innsbruck or not ( about 20 miles from there).

Also is the weather likely to be OK in late May?

How will you do the journey? If hire car I would not definitely not pay extra for Innsbruck. Also, depending on which airline you are using there are far more UK-Munich flights so better back up options if there are any flight problems (that’s also why it is cheaper).
Munich is great place so would add on a few nights there if I could. Especially if using public transport as it looks like journey takes you into Munich in order to take train South.

Late May should be fine. We used to drive from southern Germany to South Tyrol quite a lot, and it was always fine, even in the winter.

Are you thinking about hiring a car in Germany? It can cost quite a lot. We always found Sixt to be good.

Have you considered getting the train? You should be able to book tickets on the Deutsche Bahn website.

It would be a coach transfer. I hadn’t thought about an extra night in Munich - will look into it! It will be me and my DS (10 and 7)

I posted at the same time as you.

If you are going to get picked up at Munich airport by coach and driven to the hotel/resort, then I'd do this.

Thanks very much both Smile. My eldest DS is desperate to be in the mountains so am hoping it will be good!

I’ve just realised my original post was very unclear! Basically transfer by coach/taxi is provided by the hotel from either Innsbruck or Munich. Innsbruck is a lot nearer but quite a bit more for flights. Was trying to work out how long the journey from Munich would be ( but agree hadn’t also thought that might be good to fly from somewhere with lots of choice of plane incase of delays etc!)

Kids of 10 and 7 I might be tempted to skip Munich. Unless football fans. Tour of Bayern Munich stadium is very good. And easily available in English. Fake salt mine in basement of technological museum is fun too, but where you’re going there might be a visit to a real salt mine available.

Journey from Munich is around 2 hours depending on traffic.

If you get to Innsbruck at all then there’s a good route up on the cable car and then stopping off at the Alpine Zoo on the way down.

Thanks - eldest is a massive football fan. We are actually planning to do the Innsbruck and alpine zoo one day Smile

Fly to Munich.
Innsbruck is a notoriously difficult airport to land at (in middle of mountains), my plane was once diverted to Munich due to winds
.
My friend had her plane diverted to Vienna once.
