Please share with me your experiences of and recommendations for a short family holiday in Rock! It will be our first time to Cornwall. Hotel already booked but not sure where to start with our itinerary. We're going mid April. Thank you!!

Who's in your group and what are your interests?

We are a couple plus our DC who's 4. I was imagining we'd spend time exploring the coast and nearby towns/villages. We love walking, eating and cultural stuff. I also like the idea of boating/waterfront activities although we are very much inland creatures - and foreigners to boot - so not very experienced with British seaside holiday norms! I'm also expecting that it might be a bit chilly mid April and so not sure what's realistic in terms of hanging out by the water... Any guidance gratefully received!

A lot of these are weather dependant but things I would recommend are -

Camel Trail - hire bikes and cycle from Wadebridge to Padstow and back - you can hire trailers/tag a long bikes etc

Polzeath is a lovely beach if the weather is nice

Your DC might like Lappa Valley which is aimed at younger children

The Jubilee Queen from Padstow would be a good boat trip - although I haven't been on it for many years!

Eden Project is a little drive but worth it if you haven't been. They usually have activities for children during the school holidays.

Newquay has a zoo and aquarium

Maybe Hidden Valley although I can't remember how much stuff they have for younger children.

Fingers crossed for good weather for you OP

Do visit Port Isaac. Doc Martin will be filming in April. (They have rented our house). You might see them. Park in the old New Road car park on the road to Port Gaverne. Walk back to the village on the coast path. It’s stunning.

Visit Boscatle. It’s very pretty. Then go to Tintagel Castle. It’s very dramatic. Hang on to your child and check any age limits for walkways.

Go to Padstow via the ferry from Rock. The camel trail has bike hire at various points I think. Go to Daymer Bay then visit St Enodoc Church across the golf course.

You can also go out to the coast path at Trevone, Bedruthan Steps and Harlyn Bay. Have lunch at The Pig. Watergate Bay has the Emily Scott restaurant. Service can be slow but the views are great. Of try Watergate Bay Hotel.

The Eden Project is a top place to visit plus the Lost Gardens of Heligan and St Austell has a shipwreck museum. There is also the Bodmin and Wenford steam railway. We like Charlestown harbour too. A bit further south from Rock is Wheal Coates and the St Agnes Heritage Coast.

There is a lot to do and see. Polzeath is a surf place. There are better beaches but it can be windy and a bit cold in April.
