Centre Parcs and this Norovirus thing

I am off to Centre Parcs on Monday (Elveden). I have two children and am also pregnant.

With all these reports of the extreme contagiousness of this virus, I am thinking changing rooms and such like at Centre parcs are going to be a breeding ground for it.

Does anyone know if the chlorine in the water will kill it off? Also, what about precautions to take in the changing rooms and play areas?

I am not trying to be obsessive out this, but as my children do not go to school, we are not really having exposure to this in other ways and I would like to minimise the risk in what I think will be a high risk environment.

other than being very careful to wash your hands i dont think there is much you can do about it

have been on 3 cruise ships (none had norovirus epidemic while i was on them) but they have all in the past been on the news when outbreaks have occured

while onboard they are obsessed with hand cleaning

that alcohol gel is everywhere... on most walls and in all communal rooms so you can wash your hands as you go in and out

You arnt allowed to even walk through a food area without using this gel (yes they have 2 people standinh there always with it and they wont let you not use it, and equally anytime you come back aboard the ship you HAVE to use it again

The little girl who i go with was sick one day (not norovirus as such, just vomited as 3 year olds do occasioanly) we were VERY impressed with the responce... was treated as norovirus cause in there opion vomiting means you have food poisoing (better safe than sorry i guess).... Only staff in these suits (that remind me of space men or those suits they have for 'dirty bombs') were allowed in our room.... EVERYTHING that left our room (bedlinen / towels /rubbish etc) left in sealed red bags as if it was cotagiouse (where apparently laundry was washed in a seperate area of the laundry at super high temps (over 70-something i think).... after 2 days out whole cabin was sterilised... they washed EVERTHING then squirted this stuff around and even we couldnt go in for a couple of hours.
(they would also launder all of our own laundry for free (normally charge for this service) but then launder everything at 70+C)

The key to not getting and spreading these bugs is

  1. cleanliness
  2. if ill staying away from other people so you dont spread it

I went the same week as IlanaK and we had no problems at all. I was not aware of any other guest being ill, though to be fair we did not really talk to many people at all.
