Travel Insurance with lots of health conditions

bellac11 · 07/03/2022 20:38

I havent been abroad in a while not since the Brexit thing and used to rely on the health card (cant remember the name) so rightly or wrongly didnt get health/travel insurance as we only went to Europe

So Im now searching for travel insurance, Ive only made it to the first page on a comparison website and I wants me to input my health conditions, I have tons! Im very middle aged and have had a plethora of diagnoses over the years, some are formal, some are GPs notes rather than a diagnosis per se. None of them are 'serious' as such,, but the usual depression and anxiety, migraine, tremor (informal diagnosis), overweight, high blood pressure, years and years ago I had a tumor, then kidney stones, various fibroids, IBS, PCOS, I cant even remember the full lot to be honest.
What do others do, I cant be the only one who has a nice collection of past and present 'ailments' ?

I feel for you, pre covid I ended up in tears with frustration with the questions. We desperately want to go abroad again but the thought of doing insurance again brings on my anxiety. The last one we used was called top dog or something- never heard of them but I was so desperate I'd take anything, and they came from a comparison website.

Exactly

So now I thought well I cant face any more, I will just go with StaySure, but reading the small print (I have a sad life!), it turns out that none of my pre existing conditions are covered if I am awaiting a diagnosis for ANY other symptom where they dont know the underlying cause, this applies to me!!! I might as well not bother looking for insurance that touches on anything to do with illness then?
And knowing insurance companies, even if I got ill with something that was not a pre existing condition they would try to make out it was so that they dont have to cover me!

I use Just travel....I have complex health history and on several medications , husband also has history of depression ( including inpatient treatment)
I completed online form but then had to speak to someone to complete application....took less than 20 mins ....make sure you have note of all dates of diagnosis/ illness and medication- makes it much easier

Just Travel wont let me do the application without phoning, they are only open 9-5 and I cant use my phone during those hours, so thats out

We were referred to this company when another insurer couldn't cover family members' re-existing conditions.

They're open 9-1 on Saturday if that's any good - can you phone on lunch break?

They wont provide a quote for anyone who is currently undergoing tests/investigations for anything

Im currently trying to phone Stay Sure,, constant message that they have high call volumes and that awful thing where the holding music cuts in and out like its got a bad signal

Unfortunately I dont have an effective lunch break, I barely get time to nip the loo sometimes so I need to do things during the evenings when Ive got time to think.

No wonder I never used to bother with insurance, this is unbelievably frustrating and stressful

Moneysupermarket is best comparison for me. It is cheaper for me to get family annual multi trip than single holiday. I am physically disabled as well as a lot of your conditions, a carry a suitcase full of prescriptions and I declare 5 conditions! Eg. A single trip to North America was quoted £600, annual multi was quoted £300. I chose some extra high level cover which brought it up to £500 but I could have got away with the lower quote.
I chose Avanti and was pleasantly surprised to get a monthly direct debit which helped a lot!

bellac11 · 08/03/2022 19:03

Money supermarket came back with one company called 'insure and go' Ive never heard of them and it was incredibly cheap. I didnt investigate further to be honest.

I was on hold with StaySure for 1 hour and 11 mins and now they're shut

In desperation while I was waiting I looked at the Moneysupermarket option, which is called 'Insure and Escape' not insure and go..... they dont provide covid cover at all.

It seems that the problem is that Im waiting for investigations, how on earth do people go on holiday with that situation, there ust be millions of us. It means that I cannot get cover for any health conditions I already have so I might as well go for bog standard travel insurance which just covers cancellations/baggage etc etc

They don't.
I had to put all holiday plans on hold three years ago because I was having investigations. Turned out to be cancer and I haven't been abroad since.
However I'm booked to go now and got travel insurance with Staysure for £225

bellac11 · 09/03/2022 17:43

I have a letter received recently which is to my GP from the consultant (who has now discharged me) who says that my diagnosis is 'likely rhinitis'

Is that considered the diagnosis? Im still waiting for scans and bloods

We use staysure. They're really good for covering existing conditions.

ISeeTheLight · 09/03/2022 17:47

Try Avanti. They're very good for existing conditions.

bellac11 · 09/03/2022 18:45

Avanti and staysure wont cover any medical conditions if you have outstanding investigations taking place

I spent over an hour trying to ring staysure last night to confirm this but couldnt get through and then their lines closed.
