Passport help for a friend

Hi all.
A close friend of mine is absolutely distraught.
She applied for her sons passport at the beginning of January - it still "in process" and he's supposed to go on holiday in two weeks.
He has some complex MH issues - is there anything she can do to speed up the process?

I don’t think there is. When you apply for a passport they say it can take up to 13 weeks.

Ask mp maybe??

loopsaloo · 07/03/2022 18:35

This is a good idea x

She could call the passport office, worth a try. I did and despite them saying there was nothing they could do, it was processed within 24 hours and with me 2 days later

Thankyou this is good to know. I feel so bad for her

Is it a new passport or a renewal ?

If it's the latter you may be able to speed it up. But it's pretty unlikely to be honest.

How long ago did she apply and when does she travel

I know you said early of jan but just trying to work out exact weeks so I can compare to my child's as I applied for that 3rd jan and just got it back last week

loopsaloo · 07/03/2022 18:42

She applied 4th January, he's supposed to travel 23rd March. It's a first passport

Sorry crossed post.

Well he should have had it back by now!

What do the office say when you call? They were surprisingly helpful and answered quickly when I called them.

loopsaloo · 07/03/2022 18:45

She said they said there's nothing that can be done. She's so upset

www.passportwaitingtime.co.uk/
I was just looking in here and it looks like the current average waiting time is 26 days but obviously some will come back quicker, some will take longer. I think if it's in process it's a waiting game now unfortunately. There is still time though, hopefully it will arrive any day 🤞.

I've just rechecked my one. What date did it say application in progress?

There was 7 days between progress and approved on mine. Then another 6 days until printed.

There is still time.

I applied for renewals for my 3 kids on the 15th feb. Had emails today to say all 3 have been posted to me.
They went to 2 different passport offices as 2 are teenagers but the other is younger so his photo had to have a counter signatory.

Watapalava · 07/03/2022 20:25

If its an adult first, they have to get in touch with his countersignatory - have you asked them if they've been in touch as it may be a delay with that?

milkysmum · 07/03/2022 20:42

I've been a counter signatory for dozens of passports- nobody has ever been in touch with me from the passport office?

Watapalava · 07/03/2022 21:07

for 1st adult i think they are usually all contacted - says online they get an email asking to confirm identity - no passport issued until its been confirmed

WouldIBeATwat · 07/03/2022 21:09

Tweet them. Worked for me.
