Hello, any tips when travelling with a 9 month old baby? Going to Italy for a week and feeling a bit nervous about taking a baby for the first time.

Do you need formula? Worth packing your own probably. I used to feed dd on takeoff/landing to help with ear pressure. She always used to sleep on the plane. I had some of those stacking cups - took up hardly any room and could be used in the bath/on the beach etc. Pack layers. Where are you staying? Hotel/apartment etc? I used to do tea, bath and pjs and then we'd go out for an early evening stroll/drink with the pushchair. Depending on her mood we'd eat out or grab a pizza. Italians love babies (cliche I know). Mine was always being taken to meet the chef/see the fish tank etc. Happy memories of her chewing on a breadstick.

Thank you! Yes we'll need formula! We're staying in an apartment which will be handy. Thanks for the tips! Xx

Are you going to be swimming? If so then swimming nappies, as they are not always easily available, some baby sun cream and a blanket that folds to nothing, in case you can sit outside a bar /restaurant with dbaby, and it is cold.

Oooh we traveled a lot with ours at this age, fab memories!!

  • a travel high chair if your apartment doesn't have one. You can get fabric Ines that roll into a small pouch, not perfect but does the trick.
  • a zip up full length swimmer. Make sure it has poppers for nappy changes. A lot dont!
  • umbrella attachment for your buggy.
  • breadsticks
  • supply of your own baby spoons, and some sandwich bags to put dirty ones in to bring home for washing.
  • sudocrem - wet/sandy bits get sore fast!

Little cartons of formula milk for plane
Calpol, piriton, metanium, soothing creams /after sun - any medication that you MAY need as it can be hard to get abroad/ language barrier.

If you need to sterilize bottles still (mines 18 so I'm out of touch with these things) if you have a microwave, you can get bags that will do 2 bottles at a time. Or Milton tablets. Evian water can be used to make bottles as low in minerals. Take the pushchair to the gate. You never get it back til baggage reclaim in my experience, but every little helps.

Italian babies/children sleep at lunchtime and stay up late especially in the summer. And yes it’s a super child friendly country and every restaurant and café will be accommodating and helpful. Had lovely holidays there with my DC. Enjoy!

Take a travel buggy with a parasol and a sling for when you land and won’t get the buggy immediately.
