Read Felicity Cloake's One more croissant for the road to get in the mood. Have a fab time!

I have never been on a cycling holiday but know France quite well as have worked in travel and tourism in France. What sort of cycling level are you? Would you want mountain roads? Mountain trail? relatively flat road/bike path cycling? Would you be a family or just adults?

There's a wonderful company based in Suffolk - Cycle Breaks - who we've used a few times. They partner with local companies who offer this service and you can search their website for all over France and other places. Really nice guys who know their stuff. The routes are graded (easy/hard) and bikes are provided. Enjoy!!

..and to answer your other question- start in the Loire. The cycle routes there go everywhere, loads to stop off and see, and it's flat and not too hot!

I cycled Toulouse to Montpellier along the Canal du Midi once. Very flat. Took a few days. I took a small tent and everything in paniers.

If you had a camper van with bikes - I could recommend going around the Brittany coast…stunning.

I cycle fairly often. but my partner doesn't so cycling will have to be leisurely I think. I. would want cycle path or relatively flat.

nice food, able to get there by train and. probably. not northern France as I would want nice weather

Cycling for Softies might be worth a look. They offer routes in France and Italy.

All of the big Loire towns are a TGV ride from Paris - pretty easy on the train (other than carrying luggage on the Metro changes if you have to go from Gare du Nord to Montparnasse! ): www.cyclebreaks.com/travel-info-france

Not in France but I used to run a hotel on the Devon coast to coast route and got loads of people through doing just that. Very efficient people would drop off bags at lunchtime and we would put them in the guests rooms ready for them to arrive. In the morning they would pile up the bags and the same efficient person would collect them after breakfast for the next stop. Completely stress free. They could even deliver bike parts, a replacement bike on one occasion.
