Booking flights for new york

Hi,
I am looking to book New York for next January, the flights are now being released but very expensive! I’m looking at manchester to JFK with either virgin or aer lingus, is there a golden time they will drop etc? Should I wait longer before booking?

January sales have just ended so ride it out a bit longer. Have you included a Saturday night stay in New York? If not you will be getting a quote for a fully flexible ticket. Either change your dates to include a weekend or look at a package with accommodation included with for example BA (who sell are limbus) which means you will get a ticket that doesn’t require a Saturday night stay, your hotel and ATOL protection.

Who sell Aer Lingus 😂, sorry, dodgy auto correct

Is going non-direct an option? Direct flights from Manchester are always going to be more expensive because there is very limited availability. Also, does it have to be JFK? If you don't mind an extra 2-3 hour travel time, look at doing a stopover, either in London via BA/AA, or in an European city with literally any other airline. They might fly into LGA or EWR which can sometimes be cheaper than JFK and less depressing when it comes to clearing immigration and customs queues.

I don't have any advice but am interested you have mentioned Aer Lingus - are they any good to fly with?

I have had a quote for a holiday to NY over the Summer flying with Aer Lingus and have no idea what they are like.

Thank you

Be very careful about not going direct. DD did this once. Awful delays when second flight was cancelled. You might get better prices by going from Heathrow. Could you get down to London? Prices reflect demand but I’m surprised they are so high already. We’ve found BA plus a hotel with them has been the best price. January is ultra cold there!

have you looked at JetBlue from London?

I like flying Aer Lingus to the US. You clear US immigration in Ireland so that you land in the US (and leave from the US) as a domestic passenger, which means you get out of the airport much quicker. Coming back isn't quite as good, you have a wait in the Irish airport in the early morning for your connection to the UK. The planes, food etc are fine.

I was looking last night for Christmas/NY and it seems that booking a flight with the hotel with either BA or Virgin was considerably cheaper than separately.

Sorry if you already have somewhere to stay and that’s useless information!
