Whereabouts would you recommend? Teenage boys (17,15). I’m thinking Barcelona?

Budapest is interesting if they like exploring museums and castles and lovely walks? Very cheap and easy to get around on public transport to see everything.

Thanks! I love the sound of Budapest. But maybe not for my phillistinesHmm. I should say more people watching, shopping etc.. they are not into museums unfortunately.

Barcelona is wonderful. They can do the stadium tour etc.

Also Krakow is amazing

Also Nuremberg you can see the Hitler trials and rally grounds etc. Very interesting

I think DC learn by going to museums. Sometimes it’s important that they do what you went too. I always expected mine to go to museums and palaces or why go to a city?

Amsterdam is great. Anywhere with a stadium? Milan? Bologna and surrounding towns are fantastic. All accessible by train. Rome or Florence or Venice? Berlin has something for everyone. I think Nice is also great. You can easily get to Monaco.

@TizerorFizz they’ve been to plenty of museums but generally it’s not something they enjoy. Even the word elicits groans. So given that we’ve only a few years left of family holidays I want us all to enjoy them rather than force them to have an educational experience.

Thanks for the city suggestions. Barcelona is top at the moment for Gaudi, the language (youngest doing Spanish GCSE) and the stadium. I did enjoy Berlin and actually the Jewish museum is amazing. The Wall history too is is fascinating. Youngest loves history. Amsterdam is gorgeous but I’ve been quite a few times myself and fancy somewhere new. Krakow I’ll look into. Rome too. It may boil down to flights (we’re Edinburgh so more limited)

The great thing about Berlin is that you can link it to History that’s taught at school. My very young DD at the time (6) liked the Van Gogh self portraits in the Musee D’Orsay exclaiming loudly that “he’s still got his ear in that one!”. They had looked at his paintings at infant school. So I’ve always tried to find something they like and general knowledge and something to talk about is never a bad thing. I would also say a visit to Anne Frank House is never a bad thing to do in Amsterdam. It makes anyone appreciate freedoms. Rome has so many places to link to history as you walk around. I would like to think our DDs got a lot out of city holidays but we did a mix of activities and I didn’t get groans. If was always a shared holiday with something for everyone. Why would they like Gaudi architecture but not Paris architecture? My DD really rated Madrid when she went to visit a friend who was doing year abroad there.

We did a tour of the Maracana in Rio.
