Has anyone flown American Airlines recently to USA?
Just booked to go to Orlando in December with British Airways and they are code sharing with AA.
We are going indirect via Philadelphia and home via Miami.
Just wondering what food, inflight entertainment, WiFi etc is like (have 2dc aged 16 and 13) so not worried if they like the food or not just need to know if I need to take extra snacks etc!!
Thank you

MCT at PHL for an international to domestic connection is 90 minutes, unless they’ve doubled that in the last month which is when I last looked into it as I’m flying through PHL again in a few months.

I agree that some airports give inaccurate MCTs and they’re often not realistic, but in my opinion PHL is not one of them. Philly and Charlotte are some of the best airports to transit through on the east coast.

The OP seems quite chill about ‘chancing’ a 3h connection, which is the same attitude I have to US internal transfers, so I’m sure she’ll be fine either way. I’m the kind of person that would rather risk losing the original flight, than voluntarily book myself on a 6-7h layover, which is my idea of hell.

I've been offered a 1hr 45min connection via Washington DC (on the way home from Cancun). Travel agent insists it's plenty of time and I won't have to clear immigration/collect bags as I'm just transiting through. But I thought it was well known that the process is different in the US as they don't cater for connecting passengers - everyone has to go the same way whether you're staying in the US or not?

Good luck to you re your connection in Philadelphia. Hopefully it will go smoothly.

re your comment:-
"nothing can be as bad as Orlando 2016 when 4 UK flights all landed at the same time and we had to wait in that queue to clear immigration with a then 7 and 10 year old!!"

Been there and have the t-shirt for that memory. That airport really does not give a shiny poo about its passengers.

It depends if the Cancún-Washington leg is being treated as international or domestic?

If international then yes, then you’ll need to clear immigration, customs, and recheck bags. 1h45 is pretty tight as Dulles has the ‘people mover’ system and it’s not the most reliable… haven’t used it recently though.

If domestic, then your bags are checked through (if you’re on one ticket and same airline/alliance) and there’s no border control. I don’t know specifically about Cancún but there are specific airports such as Dublin or Toronto, which pre-clear passengers bound to the US, so the flight lands and is treated as a domestic arrival once on American soil.

I would find out the specifics about the Cancún inbound and what the international to international MCT is. Flyertalk is good for these kind of stuff.
