Covid postive exactly 14 days before travel

My fully vaxxed DH tested positive for Covid on 31 Jan. We are due to go to Paris on Valentine's Day, so exactly 2 weeks after the positive test. The French declaration requires you to promise that you haven't been in contact with a positive case in the "last 14 days prior to departure". I'm waiting for Eurotunnel to respond, but will he be allowed to travel?

He self isolated for the required 5 days, and now testing negative, so I think I can make the declaration honestly, but I am worried that his covid pass will get rejected as there is an argument to say that the fourteen days count back ends on valentine's day, so you can't enter till the next day.

When did he start testing negative? If he tested positive on 31 Jan then surely he was still positive on 2 Feb. So unless you live apart then you have been in contact with a positive case within 14 days and can’t go.

Have you had any contact with him since 31st January? If you had, then you have had contact with a positive case.

He was isolating for the five days in the spare room with an ensuite until he passed the test to release, with meals left outside his room etc. So its not my contact with him that I'm worried about.

I'm trying to work out whether he will be allowed to board the train - I don't mind changing plans if we have to, but would obviously rather not. I will mind terribly if we are denied travel (because then I'll lose our money).

I think the 14 days would end at midnight on the 14th, meaning you would not be able to travel until the 15th. It depends on when they start the count really though - do they start at 00:01 or 23:59 on the day of the positive test. If it was me, I would push travel out to the 15th as the french are quite strict on rules.

He will have to swear you’ve had no contact with a confirmed case of covid for the last 14 days.

He is still a “confirmed case of covid” until his 10 days are up, or at the very least until he tests negative (if earlier), surely?? He wasn’t only covid positive for one day.

I would say the 14 days only start once his 10 days are up or he tests negative, whichever is earlier.

*he’s had

The French internal requirements only require you to self isolate for 7 days after a positive test so I don't think the declaration includes "being in contact with yourself" (that would be a nonsensical interpretation).

Because of the expense and stress of changing our travel plans, I only want to do so if i absolutely have to - I just want to find out a straight answer!

Is it possible to push your plans until the day after ?

AnyFucker · 07/02/2022 11:12

What does his nhs vaccination app say ? I presume his records have disappeared for now ?

You're not going to get a straight answer here as nobody is likely to know. Maybe contact the French embassy or your travel company.
