I know I am a sad sod posting this so early but I want to take my 2 boys to eurodisney next December to coincide with my birthday which is in the fist week of December. I am a single parent and want to make this really special for them - they are 5 and 8. Is it better to take the chunnel or fly and also what are the best hotels to stay in on the site? Grateful for any tips.

I would go by eurostar (if you can) its o much easier. We have a been a couple of times and stayed in santa fe (the cheapest hotel) and hotel cheyenne. Both were fine but TBH would opt for santa fe everytime, yes its basic but we didnt really spend much time in the room so it didnt bother us, and its cheaper giving you a bit more spending money.

we are going eurodisney in 52 days but sshhh our ds's dont know [excited emoticon]

Was there early Dec .Stayed in Hotel Explorers and very happy with it. However did have a car so no hanging around for buses in the cold. Friends went around the same time and stayed in, and liked, Santa Fe and could walk to park so that might be something to consider. Would really recommend buying some ski suits in the sales for next year!! Was very cold. Also 4 of us had birthdays while we were there so prebooked the character birthday tea - bit chaotic but the kids loved it.

Went one year, (I forget which one) and stayed at the Davey Crokett ranch on a self drive package. It is actually about 5 miles from Disney itself with no laid on buses so you need your own car. I liked it because it was self cater and it had a fantastic pool for when you had enough of the rides. One down point was that because we were driving one of us couldn't drink at the Buffalo Bill Show (Great by the way) or at Disney Village in the evening.

Can't tell you about the hotels on site (friends of ours stayed in newport bay, but everything is really expensive on site apparently) we stayed at pierre et vacances val d'europe and it was ideal with the kids -self catering, gigantic breakfasts, superb supermarket 5 minutes away and a free disney bus. We flew to CDG from birmingham and paid for the shuttle to disney at the airport, then got a cab to the hotel, which was fairly painless even with 3 kids, (8,4,2) . you have to be pretty firm about not buying all the crap they shove in your face otherwise you'll be skint and paying excess baggage
but my boys weren't that demanding (DD another matter)

IndigoMoon · 31/12/2007 01:27

i have stayed in newport, sequoia and new york.all are equally as lovely x x x x ermmmmmmmm we have always flown the shuttle service is pretty painless.

i love it there x x x x x

Muffintop, I can tell you that as a foot passenger (we went to Calais today) the price was £6.00 a head return (Seafrance £8.00 for P&O). The price of a bus from London one way is £12.00, the train from Calais to Paris is ?44.50 return per adult and ?22.40 per child.

Arrgh the ? were supposed to be euro signs. ? how the heck it worked this time I'll never know!

nodder · 31/12/2007 01:37

Well it works on preview

nodder · 31/12/2007 01:40

The train would take you to Paris and you would have to catch another to Disney, it is convoluted, but it is cheaper. I would recommend looking for snow suits too, it is bloody cold in December really icy wind. I get ours from a outdoor shop at around Easter time in the sales.

muffintop · 01/01/2008 17:41

Thanks for all the replies - you have all given me a lot to think about and look at - I have got a brochure to have a good look through so have some lovely reading to do over the next few weeks - thanks for the info on getting some snow suits I didnt realise it was that cold - I'm so excited even though its a year away!!!! Happy New Year all

It's a perfect age for your dc's, they will love it. We have been twice, both in November and it was cold enough then so I think arctic clothing advice for December is good!

We stayed in the Disney hotel this time which was great as it was quick to get back with the baby but obviously that was expensive. The time before we stayed in the Cheyenne and that was fine, walking distance from the parks iirc.

We went Eurostar, very quick and easy. Also, with regards tat buying, we said they could have one food treat per day, popcorn or crepe or lolly or whatever and one toy to take home at the end. It worked for us, they didn't bother whining for things constantly. You see quite a few tantrums about the place.

smartiejake · 01/01/2008 18:04

We have been to euro disney 3 times and each time been on the train from Ashford straight there (it's great- you leave your bags with a courier who takes them to the hotel and you walk straight into the park)
We stayed at the Cheyenne which is about a 15 min way away. Perfectly fine for a few days -clean and comfortable family rooms and decent buffet style breakfasts.

slayerette · 01/01/2008 18:09

We went by plane last year (2007!!!!!)and will go by Eurostar next time. We chose to go by plane because ds had never been on one but there was so much waiting around at both ends for an hour's flight that it just isn't worth it. We waited ages for the shuttle at CDG.

ninewurlysdancing · 01/01/2008 20:43

muffintop, if it helps we booked ours with Thomas cook who turned out to be a lot cheaper then any other company.

thegrowlygus · 01/01/2008 20:48

We went early December this year. Wasn't that cold (although had ski wear for DS age 3) but did pour down for the whole first day so was glad of the waterproofs. We went with an online company called yabop that a friend found and they did really good deals.

Definitely recommend eurostar. We were upgraded to first class for free via yabop which was great - loads more room.

And we stayed at the Newport Bay hotel which was fine. We had heard horror stories about food generally at disney but the hotel was pretty good. Never got to the swimming pool though which is meant to be excellent there. I guess we were so wet from all the rain that we didn't really fancy swimming!
