Had two horrible experiences at local theatre, one was Brum and today was the panto. Both far far far too long, plot mayhem, acoustics bad, and left both wondering if any of cast had actually met any children. DD1 is huge lazy town fan and the show is coming here in March but now very nervous about sitting through another show. Anyone out there seen it?

not seen it but should be bright and lively so I would think most children would sit through it ok. take some distractions with you!!

no not seen it yet but looking forward to it..its here in july..kids cant wait either

Personally, I would avoid 'big' shows for children, and seek out specialist children's theatre companies at your local rep or other subsidised theatre which puts the child's experience and content before big profits, marketing budgets and cynical moneymaking ticket prices.

Ex works at a theatre and said this was absolutely fantastic

My sis has been and is going again next year, but she's a nutter

we saw it in Oct I thought it was rubbish but dd (5) was enthralled! Beware thought there's a lot of errr particiaption, we had to exercises with Sportacus. You may want to not wear heels, or a skirt!

I agree with Blu. I'd avoid anything that was associated with TV shows, or run by big, money-grabbing corporations. I also avoid pantos, as they're usually just vehicles for a twenty minute stint by the "big star".

We took dd to see a production of The Borrowers at a local theatre before Christmas, and it was stunning. Didn't talk down to the children, didn't try and cover up a lack of plot with flashy effects and loud music, had excellent production values and was as enjoyable for the adults as it was for the children. I'd choose something like that over a "big" show any day.

Hmm I went to Brum and we left halfway through the show but DC mad about Sportacus and they are in Oxford next month so would also be interested in feedback!
