Where to stay in Normandy for the weekend

We are planning on staying for 2 nights on the way back from Disneyland Paris before travelling home via Eurotunnel on the Sunday.

We will want either an apartment or holiday home, no hotel, as it will be myself and DH, 16 year old DS and 12 year old DD who will need a room each. We will only have a couple of days to explore but don't want to be too far from Calais for the drive back on Sunday.

Any tips on where to stay and how to make the most of our couple of days would be really appreciated 🙂

You would need to be in the east of Normandie so Rouen or Dieppe would work. Giverny would be possible on the way up from Paris to Rouen.
Further towards Calais, St Valéry-sur-Somme and Montreuil-sur-mer /Le Touquet are good.

Bayeux is lovely. Tapestry obviously, but it's a pretty town in it's own right with other museums. Handy for the D-Day Beaches. There's a great 1944 museum at Arromanches. Honfleur and Deauville are other nice towns that aren't too far out the way on the way back to Calais. Or Rouen.

Deauville, Le Touquet, Baie de Somme

Thank you so much, I'll start looking into those places.

In terms of things to do, any must do activities we can fit in in 2 days? Thank you again

Baie de Somme is great for nature walks and birdwatching. There is a theme park near Le Touquet. Sandy beaches and sandyachting.

I would actually as PP suggested give Normandy a miss and go to Le Touquet for the 2 days. Even the Eastern part of Normandy is a fair drive to Calais (probably 2 hours or so). We had a holiday to Bayeux and it was about 4 hour drive to Calais as there was traffic on the bridge. Le Touquet is only 45 minutes. It has a lovely beach and is nice to wander around. Montreuil sur Mer is an interesting town nearby or there is Boulogne which is very historic and also has a big aquarium.

Or you could visit the Somme area if any of you are interested in history? Amiens is the main city. I think it would be about 1.5 hours from Calais. Or Arras is closer to Calais and quite picturesque. In between the two there are various WW1 museums.

@lumpofcomfort, thank you, I'll definitely look into those ideas. DH has one week this year in the school holidays so we are trying to fir a bit of everything in to please everyone. We all enjoy Disney, DD wanted a day in Paris so we are doing that also and DS wanted to see the D Day landing sites and see a couple of nice towns. We all like to explore a bit (we're not I've confident though so nothing too off the beaten track) but I'm aware we will only have 2 days!
