Hi, I’d like to book a week long trip next month to celebrate my DH’s retirement and I’m at a loss of where to go. Holidays we’ve enjoyed before as a couple have been Cape Town, Dubai, cruises, Mauritius and various places in the Caribbean. I’d like somewhere that offers either activities or a range of excursions as I can’t sun bathe at all but can sit in the shade.
Any suggestions?

Not sure how far you are willing to travel for a week's holiday. But absolutely loved Costa Rica! The best country I've ever visited. Lots of tourist bits to do around the rainforest section (middle of Costa Rica). Hanging bridges, sloths, white water rafting, waterfalls, volcanoes, hot springs. Beautiful country and beautiful nature!

What do you like doing? History? Scenic walks? Museums? Posh restaurants? Rock climbing? Sea swimming?

I’ll check out Costa Rica, that distance is fine.
I like swimming, eating, walking if it’s not too hot, visiting places like palaces and castles, new little towns and villages . I absolutely love anything on the water but not under it so paddle boarding, kayaking etc are great for me. My DH loves nice views and scenic places, we both appreciate nice accommodation with a really big bed.

I loved Alaska, I backpacked but you can do it 5 star. Kayaking my the glacier and the train through the interior were particular highlights.

This year I'm taking qm2 to New York, another bucket list trip

Seychelles. You can island hop from the main island to Praslin and La Digue - smaller islands. Not as developed as Mauritius in terms of no big resorts. Food is amazing.

Vancouver and Vancouver Island if you can get direct flights the journey is not too bad and get a sea plane over to Vancouver Island. I've only been to Tofino which is a gorgeous rugged place with an amazing beach ( stay at Crystal cove if you can) and you can do a days trip kayaking out to Mears Island and a sea plane to some hot springs. Victoria the capital is meant to be worth a visit .

Marrakech and the Atlas Mountains

Kerala

Or for something more relaxing, Yucatan peninsula of Mexico

Disclaimer, I have no idea what the covid rules are for these places

Iceland?

CrimbleCrumble1 · 18/01/2022 17:18

Thank you everyone, I’m going to some Covid googling.

How about a west coast USA road trip: fly into las vegas, stay on the edge of the grand canyon, hoover dam, joshua tree, giant redwoods in sequoia, yosemite, big sur, napa, fly out of san francisco.
