Prague... anyone been lately

After any advice or pointers for anyone who had traveled to Prague lately.
Teen son is going on his first holiday next week without me, having not traveled since covid I'm after any pointers?
Triple jabbed, only taking hand luggage .
Flights and accommodation booked.
Just after reassurance for a worried mum I guess as to how easy it is when he gets there

As with any big city watch out for random people wanting to be your friend to con you, it happens allover the world, but worth sitting him down to explain how it works. Sons mate the supposedly intelligent one got conned changing money at the airport going to Prague swapped £100 for some totally worthless russian notes you cant take out of Russia, shouldn't have been out on his own!

Restaurants and bars have to shut at 10pm because of covid so the city is pretty sleepy from about 9pm onwards. He won't be able to do much clubbing etc, if that is what they are looking for.

Lots to see and do though and a fraction of the crowds there were precovid which is great. So culturally he will have a great time.

If you have any specific questions send them my way, I live here 😁

Thanks, he's going with his girlfriend for sight seeing not a clubbing night life break.
He's got his covid pass and checked in online for flights.
I understand he needs to fill in passenger locator forms.
I'm just wondering how simple the airport is when they get there and when they are returning.
Face masks have been purchased to meet the local requirements.
Also is it easier to book transfers from the airport?
Any tips on cheap restaurants?
Thanks so much

Thought I'd saved my notes from when I went a few years ago but sadly not!
I do remember that we ate at this bar

Sorry for the delayed reply @flamingo40

He will need to fill in the PLF, it is pretty straightforward. They might not ask to see it but it is good to have it printed off just in case, it saves faffing on his phone at passport control.

There are lots of yellow taxis ready at the airport, or if he feels confident enough they could book an Uber when they arrive as it's cheaper? When I've had people come to visit, often their hotel organises transfers for them for free or a good price?

The airport is really straightforward, there are 2 terminals but they are right next to eachother so there shouldn't be any confusion.

I'd imagine they will be staying around the old square, there are lots of places to eat but prices are traditionally higher, especially if you need an English speaking menu. But honestly if they walk around there is such a wide variety of restaurants, they will be able to find one with good prices depending what kind of food they want. Traditional Czech food is amazing in this cold weather, so I would recommend trying sivákova, or goulash. Beer here is also amazing and super cheap, it is traditional that half the glass is made up of the head though, so that is normal.

A few words of Czech will go a long way and will make his service experience much better. So hello, thank you, goodbye etc...the pronunciation is so hard but any attempt will be appreciated.

If they plan to use the metro, they can buy daily tickets, or tickets for one journey. It is done by time, so they can buy a ticket that will last for 30 minutes or a ticket that will last for 90 minutes. There is a difference in price of about 20p so I recommend always getting the 90 minute ticket in case they get lost and have to change metro line. They time stamp their ticket on their way in and that is it. After 90 minutes it expires. This is probably sounding a lot more complicated than it is.

I hope this helps, I will post some links to restaurants once I have time to think a bit more. We are isolating just now with covid and my 2 kids are driving me crazy!! 😂

How is he getting from the airport to his hotel? I think that is often the biggest hurdle. If he's getting a taxi then ensure he knows where they park and if he needs to be careful of any scams. If he is getting the airport express bus make sure he knows where it stops and has directions to his hotel from there. I also always look up restaurants, ATMs and supermarkets before I go just to be a bit more prepared.

Also, it is really bloody cold here right now, so lots of clothes they can layer up, hats, gloves, thick coats etc will be needed!!

You sound like a nice mum, but honestly, I'd leave them to make their own arrangements - it's how they learn. There's not a lot that could go wrong that they can't fix as they go along (local covid regs aside).
