EasyJet cancelling flights

I got an email from EasyJet yesterday, cancelling my flight from Edinburgh to Lanzarote on 2nd February. Found an online forum where some others have also had flights, to other destinations, cancelled - also for early Feb. and no explanation given.

Has this happened to anyone else here?

My accommodation is flexible so have rebooked to fly on 5th but obviously makes my holiday shorter and I’m wondering what would happen if my flight home is cancelled.

They cancelled mine to Slovenia in July. It’s annoying.

I presume they would have said something about the return flight by now.

I work for an airline and rarely know the reason for cancellation. It's either planned ahead and the reason is likely to be "covid" these days or it's short notice due to something like a technical problem, cabin crew sickness, weather etc. Most planned cancellations are made outside of 14 days before the flight so they don't have to pay you EU compensation.

If your return flight is cancelled when you are away contact easyjet to rebook. If they don't have anything suitable you will need to buy a new ticket with another airline and get a refund from Easyjet for the cancelled flight. If you are out of pocket you would need to see if your travel insurance will cover that.

They did that to us next year with two different flights over the summer. I think they'd rather cancel the flight than run it under capacity. So if they don't sell a certain amount of seats by a certain date it gets cancelled.

They've done it to me twice!

last time was going to/from Rome in October last year, both flights cancelled even though there were very few travel restrictions at that time.
Because they cancelled I could change them to any other date at no extra coast, so they have ended up massively out of pocket - we paid about £250 for the flights & I have moved them to Easter holidays this year which would have been almost £1000

It's not just EasyJet. Everyone is cancelling flights.
DH is on his third set hoping to get home at the weekend - first flight cancrlled before he set off, and now his return from the second set has been cancelled. Now on a third airline, and hoping it goes. Thankfully he's got a big enough credit limit to just rebook and await the refunds.
