Passport Office Delays - Family Holiday Ruined?

I sent off for my son's first passport in November. I had to send his BC and my passport as supporting documents.

I am due to go skiing at the end of his month and although my son's passport arrived last week, my passport has still not been returned.

The email says I should receive it within 2 weeks of my son's passport being delivered and thought I'd call the passport office for an update as we're half way through that time frame.

They have told me that there's a further 3-4 week delay on returning supporting docs.

I've been on hold to speak to someone about expediting this for 40 minutes now and I'm feeling hopeless. It's going to be a loss of thousands of pounds if I can't get my passport back.

Has anyone had any success in collecting supporting documents in person from their offices? I need some hope to cling onto.

@Borracha

So sorry you are dealing with this. I recently applied for my baby’s first passport and when the supporting documents were returned, I received someone else’s birth certificate Shock

That is horrendous! What did they do about it? Did you get all of your supporting documents back?

@orangina01

Oh no! I thought they gave you the fast track one on three days or something.... I'm sorry!

Please keep us updated but I'm confident you'll get there. Surely the fast track service will come through for you? Surely! 🤞🤞

It's an 8 day service for an afternoon appointment so it should arrive by next Friday. 🤞

My counter signature signed over the edge of the box and I was certain it would be rejected, but from what the lady said, she could ID me from my old passport photo. Perhaps counter signatures aren't needed for fast track appointments but I couldn't find anything in the booklet to suggest this was the case 🤷‍♀️

Hooray! My replacement fast track passport has arrived! I could have hugged the delivery man but now that the only obstacle for going on holiday is passing a Covid test, I'm steering clear of everyone!

Thank you to everyone who has given words of encouragement and shared their experiences.

Yayayayayayay!!! So pleased for you!

Definitely avoid everyone so you don't get Covid before you go 🤣. And relax! Bet you'll sleep well tonight.
