Holiday before 31st March

Inspiration needed, please.
DH must use 13 days A.L. before 31/3, but we could add a bit extra from his 2022 entitlement.
We're in England, & have had more than enough UK holidays in the last 2 years!
We're triple-vaxxed, & don't want the hassle & uncertainty of being tested before entering a country and/or crossing borders.
Not quite "money no object", but it's also a special occasion so willing to splash the cash.

I haven’t researched long-haul ‘special’ destinations lately so can’t give up to date info on those. But I live in Germany and you can currently travel here without a test or isolation if you’re double vaccinated. If you’re triple vaccinated you also don’t need to test for entry to restaurants, museums, concerts… each state has slightly different rules though.

Spain is another country that doesn’t ask for a test to fly there. Keep in mind that you will need a day 2 test when coming back to the UK, regardless of country of origin.

Georgyporky · 11/01/2022 18:23

Thanks for your reply. I'll certainly look at Germany.

We're looking at Madeira in mid March. Good weather, lots to see and do, good range of good quality hotels, always been one of the 'easier' places wrt COVID.

Georgyporky · 12/01/2022 17:45

Thanks for the suggestion. We love Madeira, been there twice.
Egypt is looking good at the mo, might do the section of the Nile that was closed when we went a few years ago.

Definitely Egypt. Such good value for money. We have booked for August.

Iamthedom · 13/01/2022 13:31

You have Spain & Canaries
No testing apart from proof of being double Jabbed and you have to buy a LFT before you leave to do when you arrive back

Long haul Mexico no tests when arriving just a health form and the same as Spain when you arrive back LFT booked before you fly home for day 2

BigSandyBalls2015 · 13/01/2022 13:36

I've just been reading about Greece, am I correct in thinking they allow non vaccinated people in, as long as you've had a negative test beforehand?

kitcat15 · 13/01/2022 13:48

Could you not take leave forward? I am nhs...usually have to use it all up...this year we are allowed to take 2 weeks ( pro rata) forward.... same for my partner who is local authority ( he has to use this by end June 22) ..... think lots of public sector jobs have this option this year

minipie · 13/01/2022 13:54

Thing is , travel rules can change at any time

For example Maldives currently requires a PCR 2 days before entry- but this could be dropped at any time. Other countries which don’t require it, might introduce it.

Personally, I would feel slightly happier travelling somewhere which requires a pre travel PCR as I think the plane is the most likely place for me to catch covid and thus develop it while out there (I’m not especially scared of covid but don’t want to end up stuck in quarantine abroad).

www.politico.eu/article/commission-sets-9-month-duration-for-vaccine-certificates-from-february-1/amp/ It's worth bearing this in mind, although the details don't seem entirely clear yet. Looks like vaccine passports forced travel have a 9 month time limit from date of second jab 😫

SagittariusDwarf · 13/01/2022 16:36

For EU travel, that is

SagittariusDwarf · 13/01/2022 16:38

*for travel, not forced travel ffs

confusionwith · 13/01/2022 18:29

@SagittariusDwarf sorry I'm dumb. What does this mean ? I've not long had my booster

Georgyporky · 13/01/2022 18:51

Thanks for all the advice & suggestions.
The 13 days is already carried forward - use or lose !
Don't wish to sound macabre, but DMIL is 100 so we always keep a week A/L in reserve in case......

Anyway, still investigating Egypt. Ease of entry, pleasant climate in March, been there years ago but planning to see the bits we had to miss.

It's not 100% clear what it means, but it seems as though people might not count as vaccinated, for travel within EU countries, once 270 days after their second jab has elapsed. I can't see that boosters count towards this. What that means in terms of travel remains to be seen, perhaps it will mean PCR tests to go, or people whose 270 days have elapsed can't go to places, or perhaps it doesn't mean either of those. It comes into effect in Feb so hopefully there will be more clarity at that point.

I think it means after your first two jabs you have 90 days to get your booster, if you don't get your booster in that time then you can't get the passport.

SagittariusDwarf · 13/01/2022 19:38

Tal45 I don't think it does say that

SagittariusDwarf · 13/01/2022 19:41

It doesn't say that at all @Tal45 Confused

confusionwith · 13/01/2022 22:37

@SagittariusDwarf oh okay. It isn't very clear to be honest no. Do you think if you've had the booster you're okay to travel still ?

SagittariusDwarf · 14/01/2022 09:00

It's so unclear isn't it. There's another article about it here which suggests that a booster will "re-set" the 270 days. But it doesn't say if the booster shot is subject to the same 270 day expiry. I'm just going to delay my booster for as long as possible just incase Confused

Keladrythesaviour · 14/01/2022 22:17

@SagittariusDwarf I think the booster must reset it, because otherwise everyone who had their jabs on the intial roll out would run out of date and never be able to travel, despite following all vaccination processes to the letter. They'd be punishing those who got vaccinated early which doesn't make any sense.

Iamthedom · 15/01/2022 17:35

From the website that I have checked if you have had your booster it’s ok to travel
If you haven’t it’s 270 days from 2nd Jab
But it depends on where your going

janicewheeler · 17/01/2022 17:05

@Iamthedom so this doesn't include the booster jab ?
Some lady at jet2 had told my moms today to be careful booking holidays because the uk rolling out 4th jabs because efficiency wanes after 8 weeks.... are they ??? And if so other countries will expect these to travel !
Really annoyed me actually as I think she was chatting shit but now obviously it's got me wondering. I've only just had my booster and I'm certainly not having another before our holiday in may !
