Eurotunnel & passenger locator forms?

I will be returning to the UK in the next week and was wondering what people's experience was with Eurotunnel strictness and Day 2 tests? I already have 3 unused tests which I bought in July and was planning to use these and the references , but my OH has hear of border staff being quite strict and fining folk in similar circumstances! If need be, I'll buy new ones, but I'd rather not if I can.

Are the day 2 tests you have PCRs? Do you have the reference number for them still? If the answer to both is yes, then there is nothing for border staff to be strict about - you've done everything you're supposed to do!

We just used eurotunnel on the weekend and randox pcrs. No problems. Used a randox drop box and got results quickly.
The passenger locator forms do not ask for the pcr reference numbers of children and teenagers nor did anyone check. However, as the kids are back at school this week all 4 kids did the pcr and it came back quickly. If they did go on to get symptoms etc would look very bad in their respective schools.
I guess there might be spot checks and you cannot predict how the particular official will react. When they are busy it is less likely but it is quiet at the moment.
If you have unused pcrs in date and with unused reference numbers presumably it is fine to use those.

Are you returning from a holiday? Or for a visit? Where are you travelling from?

abricotine · 04/01/2022 21:51

Can’t see how you would be found out?

Miss Ambrosia - returning from seeing OH's family (she is French). We decided to do the full 10 days quarantine rater than pay for more ruddy tests and were checked by the Genderme on two occasions, despite being in the middle of nowhere!

Janek - back in July, we bought Day 2 packs, which included a PCR departure test AND a Day 2 PCR for each person. This was just before Macron dispensed with the need for departure tests, so they weren't used. Obviously we used the Day 2 tests, but we still have 3 perfectly fine, in-date PCR tests and reference codes. It seems a waste of money to buy another 3, just because they have 'Day 2' written on them.

Thanks Incognito - I'm tempted to buy two new Day 2 tests for me and the OH and use one of my unused PCR's for the kid.

What is everyone's thoughts?

Surely this is not a question of whether the border staff will accept your old tests, but rather if the online passenger locator form will? If the online form accepts the old reference numbers then I can't see how the border staff will know that these are old tests. However, if the locator form won't accept the old reference numbers, then you'll have no choice but to buy new tests? Or am I missing something?

Personally I would expect that you cannot re-use a previously used reference number, unless there is a bug in the system (otherwise you could just buy a Day 2 test once and keep entering the same reference every time you travel).

Coquohvan · 05/01/2022 13:52

Use your unused ones.
We also had spares due to change in travel advise, we used them on the PLF for the tunnel journey return to UK for day 2 with out any problems.

Could be that BJ does away with the enter to UK tests this week.

Carthag · 06/01/2022 11:43

Coquohvan - seems you guessed BJ correctly!
Alaimo - I've realised, looking at the PCR order form and PLF that we not only have the PCR's, but also an unused references. Now we also have three fit to return lateral flow kits that can probably also be used!

Just follow the law like everyone else.
It has recently changed so check what is online.

Carthag · 08/01/2022 18:58

Thanks for that, Gwen, but the law on this is about as clear as mud and constantly changing. Add to that the problem that any sensible question you ask on Google (or any other search engine) gets filtered / screened; hence me asking sensible people the questions here.
If you take the time to actually read my posts, you will see that I have both non-NHS references AND non-NHS lateral flow tests and that I am not trying to get out of doing them!

But you don't ask on Google, you check the website of the governments of the countries you're travelling from and going to.
Then you can ask others about the details.
