Anyone been to Tenerife recently?

We booked a few months ago to go to Tenerife with the kids in Feb half term. Due to covid, every family holiday abroad we've had planned for the past 2 years has ended up being cancelled, so we've been very dubious whether we're going to make it to Tenerife or not. However as far as we know everything is still going ahead at the moment so am going to start cautiously planning.

Has anyone that's been recently been able to tell me how much is open in terms of restaurants and shops? We're staying in Playa de las Americas if that's any help? Also in terms of things to do, I've had a quick look and it appears Siam Park and Loro parque seem to be open with limited numbers.

Also in terms of the dreaded covid tests, am I right in thinking it's only me and DH that have to do a lateral flow before the return flight (as both our kids are under 12)? Do we have to buy a lateral flow test to take with us or do we get one when we are out there?

@KitKat1985

The hotel were enforcing masks for all as was the airline, no exemptions. Didn't see a single unmasked person over 6. My dd is autistic and wears a mask, took practice but it's possible

@TheSonjaMorgan

We are off to the Canaries soon, can't wait! Do you have to wear masks on the beach?
At the moment here, masks are worn all the time indoors unless you're seated at a table. Spain did recently (re)introduced mask wearing outdoors but I'm not seeing much evidence of that in resort, some do, some don't. I don't know how the 1.5m distance works while walking along the street but people don't seem to walk that close to others anyway so maybe that's why some people don't wear masks when walking outside.

Masks don't need to be worn on the beach when you're settled. I wear mine until I've sat or lay down but again, it seems a bit hit and miss.

People are adhering to the adequate space thing on beaches though. Another thing is that the lifts in hotels are only supposed to be used by one family/room at a time so in bigger hotels this can cause a bit of a wait.

Thanks for the info @poppym12

Just heard the LFT and PCR to return to the UK has been dropped. Brilliant. Presume the UK passenger locator/health form still has to be filled in though.

Oohh, when from? DH travelled back on Tuesday but I'm not due back until Sunday (unless I extend it again.....).

I think from Monday not tests on arrival back to UK

ToManySnacks · 05/01/2022 17:45

*No

itsgettingweird · 05/01/2022 17:46

I use to live there!

I'd also recommend www.junglepark.es/en/.

You can book tickets for all attractions from the uk which means you have plenty of chance of getting in! We do that before we travel.

Spain can also be good at offering carer tickets so check the websites and take evidence.

My friends that still live there say most is still open but they are good at safety so again recommend booking restaurants etc.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 05/01/2022 18:19

I think it’s from 4am Friday

rookiemere · 05/01/2022 18:57

@poppym12 so do you have to wear a mask when you are walking around outside or lying on a sun lounger ? If so is everyone wearing the masks over their nose properly? I can't get my head round wearing a mask outdoors in the heat. I also sometimes go for a jog when we're in Tenerife- are you expected to wear a mask then ?

You have to wear them walking around but you take them off when you're on your lounger. You don't have to wear them jogging as far as I know

poppym12 · 05/01/2022 19:16

People aren't wearing masks whilst jogging. I'd say that a larger percentage are not wearing them outdoors than are. If you're seated or lying on a sun lounger there is no requirement to wear a mask.

I sometimes wear one when walking about if its crowded or I'm going in and out of shops as it saves me keep taking it off and putting it back on again.

I've found that the disposable masks are way more comfortable to wear when it's hot than cloth ones.

I'm not sure what the official rules are, I'm just saying what I can see around me right now so things may change in future.

JudgeRindersMinder · 05/01/2022 19:17

I came home on 23rd December, all bar 1 favourite restaurant open and normal.
I’d get your youngster used to a mask pdq- there are NO exemptions

Starisnotanumber · 05/01/2022 19:34

There are a couple of regular YouTube guys who post about Tenerife.
Scotsmen in Tenerife and Knightstrider.
They post walking videos and will show you level of mask wearing and how busy it is.
How old are your dc it's difficult to recommend as a couple of 10 year old are going to like different things than a couple of 3 or 4 year olds

KitKat1985 · 06/01/2022 10:16

I'm so pleased the testing rules back into the UK have been relaxed. More spending money now for fun things! Actually getting hopeful this trip may happen!

Good idea about the jungle park @itsgettingweird
